A "regular" Toilete Install?

I have a Jay Flight 38BHDS which is basically a "park model" as it is on our lake lot with no plans on being moved anytime soon. I'm sick of the wife complaining about the smell from toilet after every flush. Yes, I've tried all the drop ins and not ever going to give the "fix" needed. I need a sewer trap...period.

Question...is there any reason why I simply can't just install a regular residential toilet...the kind with a fill tank and built in trap? I know I'll give up some footprint room but getting rid of the stink once and for all will be worth it.

I'm surprised I couldn't find any youtube videos on this so its got me wondering if I'm missing something.

Something like this...

If you have to winterize, you will not have the luxury of having the cover plate, meaning you will need to make sure that there is liguid in the bowl.

Yes, I realize that. I'm very versed in winterizing regular residential toilets from years of doing it for my in-law's summer home.

Anyone know if the flange and bolt pattern is the same?

They make a repair flange that screws of the floor in case the existing one doesn’t fit so that shouldn’t be a problem. I would use a wax ring for the seal. the only concern I would have is the centerline of the toilet to the back wall to make sure you have enough room for the toilet and the tank. Both waste pipes are 3 inch. Other than that it does sound doable.

Actually the centerline of the drain in the RV is 14.5” from the wall. The regular toilets require 12” so it will actually have more clearance than required. The bad part for my layout is the door will loose a few inches when in fully opened position because the toilet is behind the door coming from the kitchen. That’s a trade off we’re willing to accept though to go “stink free” lol

As much as I like the “elongated” seat/bowl better, I will likely get the “round” since it’ll save a few inches more sticking out.

they also make an offset toilet flange check on YouTube for videos about it it may help you move it around a little bit and give you a little more distance

The residential toilet has a built in trap. If you are not towing it, just add another for safety/ code.

All these FEMA trailers use one. Go for it.

You will have to remove the tank unless you want to dump every couple days due to the extra water.

If you are on a sewer system you would be good to go!

FEMA trailers did not come with tanks, they were a direct sewer connection just like a house.

Anyone have working knowledge on the Aqua-Magic Residence RV Toilet / High Profile / Bone - Thetford 42171? Thinking of buying it.

Only problem I see is you could still get the liquids flowing out with the solids hanging back, only to create a dried mess. A home sewer line has a very low pitch, while your RV has a drastic (in comparison) pitch..which can cause the water to flow faster than the solids and them building up in your line.

It looks similar to what JAYCO is using in the PINNACLES, or at least did. It is still a RV toilet, just higher and with a residential seat.

As the OP, I thought I'd update everyone. I ended up installing the "TOTO CST243EF#12 Entrada Two-Piece Round 1.28 GPF Universal Height Toilet, Sedona Beig"

I went with the smallest one I could find. It came out great and no more stink. Ideally it would have been an elongated bowl but then you would lose some for door clearance (for me anyway).

I meant the tank on the back of a residential toilet.
