? about black tank

It just dawned on me to ask this question. I have only been RVing for 5 years so I have a lot to learn.
Here goes. After I drain and completely flush the black tank so the water is coming out clear, I add a few gallons of water to the tank along with the chemicals so I'm ready for my next trip, which is usually only 3 - 4 weeks away each time. So should I leave the black tank empty until I take the trailer out again or does it make a difference to do it as I have been doing?
I never get any foul odors from it.

I always put a few gallons in it before leaving the dump station to slosh and prevent any thing from drying. We seldom use any chemicals except some liquid soap and water softener occasionally.

I always try to put around 3 to 5 gallons and a cap full of fabric softener in there after i dump the tank,the last thing you want is leaving it dry and solids harden up on the bottom

Thank you for the replies. As you both do, I also put a few gallons in after I dump so I guess I'm doing it right.

During the camping season, I also keep a few gallons w/softener as well in the BT.

Yes you are definitely doing it right. The black tank should never be completely dry. Even in the winter I put a gallon and a bit of antifreeze in there.
