AC drain from roof question
Greetings all. So I posed a question in a previous thread about a concern I had regarding how my AC condensation drains from my roof. I noticed water pooling around the unit and thought this was odd. After several calls to Jayco, I have been told this is 'normal'. The water seems to pool to a point but eventually reaches a level that allows it to work its way to the side gutter and run off. I would think it would be better if the roof support was designed such that water would immediately run off to the side and not gather around the area where the unit penetrates the roof membrane. I looked at another Jay Feather in my camp and noticed a slight 'bowl' effect around his unit as well. See pics. Any thoughts? I'm thinking of making a channel out of 1" pvc (cut the pipe in 1/2 to create a gutter)that would catch the water coming out of the pan drain and direct it to the side.

Do you have water/condensation coming in?

How will you mount the channel? I'd be worrying about creating a problem.

No water coming in the camper. My idea for the channel is to take a 4' x 3/4" pvc pipe and cut a section of the top off to create a 'tongue'. I will then slide the tongue under the unit and position it under the pan drain hole. I can hopefully create enough fall to allow the water to run down the pipe and off the roof (essentially bi-passing the bowl effect of the roof around the unit).

Of course they said that! The QC engineer's redlines on the design got redlined by the manager. "Close enough! Ship it!!!"
If you can figure out a way how to un-puddle the puddle, then do it. You really don't want standing water up there, anywhere where it could become a leak.

How will you secure it while driving down the road?
How is this water different than when it rains?

On the 2 MachIII's I have the condensate pan has holes on either end. The water drains out of them and then drips out of larger holes on the ac frame depending on where gravity takes them.

I have had bad luck with pvc contorting in the hot sun.

Well, you bring up a good point with the rain - there's no way I can catch that. As far as driving down the road - that isn't an issue as the AC won't be running. When not traveling, my camper sits in a fixed site at the lake - mostly shade, so sun distortion of the pvc isn't really an issue - Seems to be a big design flaw to me

I thought you posted in the other thread that the water used to run off? If that is the case have you checked for any leaks around the a/c to be sure the roof isn't failing? It shouldn't be holding water.

Temporary fix in place. Again, water is pooling around AC (bowl depression) and then eventually running off to the side. No water coming inside- checked another Jayco in my area and it has same condition
Having trouble posting pics
