Actual tongue weight for 2016 Whitehawk 28dsbh

Hi,

Any owner of 2016 Whitehawk 28dsbh here have measured the actual tongue weight when the trailer is not loaded with any camping stuff (or is very lightly loaded)? The spec says the tongue weight is 650 lbs, but that's without batteries, etc. So I would like to know a real world number with batteries and lp tank filled (but trailer is not loaded)? And please also mention whether the hitch was mounted when you measured the tongue weight.

I would not go by what someone else has measured at THIER tongue weight as it most likely will be different than yours. Best bet would be for you to measure your own and then you will know exactly what you have. Do a search or how to measure tongue weight using a bathroom scale and some boards. It isn't all that difficult.

Thank you for trying to help. I fully understand the importance of measuring your own. And I know someone will say I need to measure my own. But the problem is, before I buy my own, i need to do planning, and doing the numbers on paper is the first step. Yes, you can not just rely on n7 mbers on paper and don't check on a scale. But don't do the numbers on paper first before you buy is just as foolish as not measuring it aftr purchasing it.

I am asking for unloaded tongue weight. I have checked multiple dealers and dealers listings of this model, the shippng weight are all around 6200-6400 lbs, so i guess the unloaded tongue weight will be about the same for all, giving the condition that lp tanks are full.

* hitch was installed but the trailer was not hitched to TV, right? What is your hitch's weight? Or what is your hitch's model so I can look up its weight myself?
* was lp tank full when you measured?
* how many battery do you have on your 28dsbh? One or two?
* was your trailer loaded? If yes, a light load, medium load, or heavy load?
* was water tank full?

That's exactly the information I needed.

Was hitch installed when you measured? If yes, What is the weight of your hitch? Or what is the brand/model of your hitch so I can lookup its weight online myself?

Thanks for this, it's encouraging, as tongue weight is my biggest concern at this point. I know everyone has to weigh/measure their own rig but my 28DSBH will be very close to yours in options. If your tongue weight was 850, I'm hoping that mine, with two 20lb tanks and one battery, will be closer to 750 dry. That gives me a few more WD/sway control options, allowing me to consider some of the heavier units like the ProPride. Guess I won't know for sure until delivery, but I'll sleep a little bit better until then thanks to your post! 😊

One thing to consider if you're going to use a propride or a hensley, you can pack your trailer closer to 10% tongue weight vs the optimal 15% this save quite a bit of tongue weight if you can load your trailer with heavier items near the axle

Deeperblue, you are asking the right questions prior to purchase and its great to see some providing some useful information rather than simply telling you to weigh the trailer that you don't have and in my experience dealers are usually reluctant to let you take a trailer to the weigh scales before you purchase it.


The Propride hitch will be worth every pound if you are towing close to the limits of your truck.

Trailer models will have different dry tongue weights based on their design but for optimum handling you will want between 12% to 15% of the trailer weight, including what you load into it, as tongue weight. You do not have to add batteries and propane tank weights to this number. So if your trailer is 6400 lbs and you carry 500 lbs of stuff in your trailer, your recommended tongue weight would be between 830 lbs (12%) and 1035 lbs (15%). If you load more stuff into your trailer, you will have 12 to 15 lbs more tongue weight for every 100 lbs of cargo in the trailer. If you are carrying fresh water to your desired camping spot, it is about 8 lbs per gallon.
