Add a fan to my bedroom vent?
I am looking at adding a fan to the vent above my bed on my 2020 jayflight 28bhs . Has anyone ever done this before? If so any pointers for me? Where can I steal power from? And can I just add the fan and motor to the vent or do I need to replace the whole vent? Thanks for any help. I searched a bit but did not find anything on it.

You'll want to supply a little more information, ie. year and model of your rig.
You'll most likely have to replace the whole unit. You should be able to find a vent fan to match your current roof opening. Google MaxxFan or RV Roof Vent Fan.
Good luck!

Buy a better fan like a Maxxfan Multispeed with vent cover. Multispeed fans are quieter and can move huge amounts of air.
The vent openings are standardized on 14 inch x14 inch.

Noted and made the edit thanks. I will be doing mostly boondocking so I just want a small fan to move some air while we sleep running off the 12v so I'm just looking for a small fan than won't kill my batteries. Thanks for the advice

Running a multispeed on low will use less amps than a single or dual speed.
Look for fans with more than 3 blades. 3 blades are noisy 5 or more blades move air quieter and more volume per rotation. Less air friction turbulence. Less current draw on lower speeds

Google for "Heng fan" - it's a brand - they make some that fit into standard RV vent openings, and do not need to replace the entire vent. They install from the inside, no alteration to the vent seal, no caulking. There's a single speed and a multi speed version. These are not as nice as a Fantastic Fan or Maxxair, but much easier to retrofit.
I put the single speed version into a vent in my Jayco 175RD bathroom, and tapped power from a nearby ceiling light. Fairly easy. Reasonably quiet, works well for exhausting shower moisture. Only downside on mine was that the on/off switch failed very quickly, (cheap push button), and I had to replace the switch.

Pull the trim ring to see if it is pre-wired. Some rigs have the wiring already in place and that is the most challenging if not there.

I installed the Hengs multispeed fan in my bedroom vent. It has the ability to draw air in or vent it out. The install was quite easy from the inside only. I tapped in power from a nearby ceiling light. The fan fits nicely in the existing vent structure.

Excellent thanks I will probably do just that. Do you happen to remember the model.

You replace the entire vent. I believe that you will find power once you remove the old vent. However I am not sure of this. I had one installed in my bedroom on my 2022 27rk and they did not mention that they had to bring in power.

Are you talking about putting the fan on the AC vent, or the roof vent. I interpreted your post as the AC vent. Many of the answers address the the roof vent.

I put the Heng Vortex II fan in a previous camper. On low it is fairly quiet and moves a lot of air. 20 minute install.

I know this is not what you asked for but we use a small USB powered fan, it is 7", moves a good amount of air and is super quiet for under $20. We use it on the bed side table or rig it up in a window.

Power may or may not be an issue. Pull the inside trim and see what's in the area. You may have wiring running past for lights by the headboard.
Also contact Jayco with yvin #, and ask for your 12v wiring diagram.
I have pulled a lot of wires in my htt, just takes a little bit of snooping and planning.

As with others, I added a Hengs Vortex 2 in my bathroom and got the power from the nearby light. Easy install. The other thing to add is a Maxx Air cover over the existing vent so that you can use it even in a rainstorm. Easy to add to any existing vent from the outside and makes a world of difference.

Noted and ordered lol thanks alot guys. I ordered the vortex 1, before I found out there was a 2 lol with a switch that will reverse the airflow and will be ordering the maxx air covers. You all have been very helpful and I really appreciate it.

If you want to make it a multispeed fan (though it won't reverse direction like the Vortex 2), you could use this -
https://www.amazon.com/BOJACK-Contro...d_bap_m_rp_4_t
That controller is what I used to replace the broken pushbutton switch in my Vortex 1 fan. Very easy to do, the controller is marked for wiring input and output. The controller switch is a rotary knob that goes from a detent for off, and turns up to variable speeds from very slow to full speed. The knob fits in the same hole as the Vortex pushbutton, and was easy to secure in place inside the fan body - there is a plastic post next to the switch hole, and I zip tied the controller to it. It's quite small.
Also, a word of advice on installing the Vortex fan: you'll probably drop some screws and will get some sawdust falling when you pull the trim on your ceiling vent. Put down a sheet or something to catch it all.

I have also used a Hengs Vortex 1 with a PWM controller like Chucacabra did. That way it can be run very slowly and quietly if wanted

I did to a 2015 Redhawk, Removed the vent and replaced it with an electric fan which came complete and hood.
Wired it to the light in the cubby. Used the plastic wire cover stuff to cover power wire.
