add a pass through door

My trailer just has one door for the underneath storage. so, if I don't want to pick up the bed, ugh, I sometimes just have to crawl in to reach things that have shifted away from the door.
There seems to be clear wall space to put a door on the other side of the camper.
Has anyone ever cut a new hole and added a door for "pass through" storage?

Bump

Someone a few years ago added a hatch.

I would start by contacting Jayco with your Vin number, and ask for the wall drawing. This way you know where the structure is at.

Are you talking about an additional exterior door? In my 195RB the other side from the door is where the fresh water lives.

I did see a post about adding a door under the front edge of the bed. Seemed simple enough as they were just going to cut the panel, reinforce the edges and simply remove the panel to get at things. Forgot how they attached it. I will search for it.

I did add the bed lifters and they make it much easier to access the stuff under there. I also added a lightweight floor mat in the area so stuff doesn't slide around.

thank you all for your replies. in this model (2013), the freshwater tank is in the rear. it seems to have the wall space to put a door on the exterior opposite side. contacting a dealer is probably what I should do first. I like the idea of a mat to keep stuff from sliding around, and the idea of the bed lifters. all great stuff! Thank y'all!

Another cheap solution is to keep a "rake" in the storage area. That way if something slide across to the other side you can pull it back with the rake.

What about some kind of sliding floor that you could pull out?

An old carpet runner would work for that.

I somehow knew you had a 2013 198RD just by reading the title of this thread.

Believe it or not, the 2014 model came with hatch doors on each side from the factory. I had originally ordered a '13 198RD but when the dealer F'd up my order I ended up with a '14 which had the full pass through storage up front with doors on each side.

Based on this I am confident it would be pretty easy to add a door. It can be done and I'd say it would be worth it!

I agree, I looked yesterday when I was out at camper and it sure looks like there is space for one, and I had seen a picture of one with a door on both sides, so I wondered why mine just had one. so it is specific to year model....thank you
