adjusting the flame on the water heater

Hi,
anyone know how to adjust the flame on the water heater. I think it should be mostly blue. Now, it has a lot of yellow in it and there is some soot on the exhaust cover.

I have a 2007 feather sport 165.

First of all - welcome to the forum FunJayco! Glad you found us. If you have time, come on over to the new member forum and introduce yourself.

Sounds like you possibly have some obstructions (most common), such as a mud dabber nest started in the tube. I would carefully look there. Check out the manual link in my signature, if you go there under Atwood there is a Water Heater Service manual and it will run you through some of the troubleshooting steps. It has some other recommendations for what you describe.

Try this see if it helps you out.

Low gas pressure. • Set inlet pressure at a minimum 11" W.C. with two or more gas appliances running

Poor gas supply. Replace gas with new.

• Improper air adjustment • Adjust main burner air shutter approximately ¼ way open - flame should be mainly blue and quiet

Poor main burner alignment. • Adjust valve and main burner alignment

Blocked burner orifice • Align flame spreader so it is square with end of burner tube

Obstructed main burner. • Clean orifice and main burner - DO NOT enlarge orifice

Obstructed "U" tube. Clean U- tube

Obstructed exhaust grille. Remove obstruction

Thank you for the help. That should give me a good head start. We did our first camping trip last weekend and really enjoyed our camper. Few little things need to be addresses, but nothing major...yet. I know I have to work on the roof soon, but more questions will come when I'll be ready to do that project. I need to take care of that burner before our next trip at the end of the month. Until then, Happy camping everyone

You Can slide the air adjustment ring on the main burner tube, loosen the 1/4 " hex head screw and slide the air ring until the flame is blue. Check for obstructions, like the mud dabber as the others mentioned. Welcome to the forum, for another new guy
