Air Conditioner Control Box
Just got back from a quick 2-day camp trip. Due to being so busy this was the first time in 12 months we had taken the TT out. Started the AC and no cold air. Got it home and took the shroud off and did some investigating.
The capacitors are good, the fan runs but no compressor. Cut a long story short I am pretty sure it is the relay on the control board. If I bypass the relay the compressor runs. I am fairly confident that it is not the thermostat although I am going to trace the wires tomorrow to make sure there is not a break from the COOL switch that is causing the relay not to close, as that would be the only other issue, although I think it would be a long shot.
So a few questions:
1. Are these control boxes a common fault?
2. I live where it can get down to -40 in the winter so is the AC unit requiring more insulation before I put my ADCO cover on?
3. Has anyone else had this same problem and repaired it with the same end result? i.e. the same investigation and the relay was the problem?
4. Can you buy the relay on its own and solder it to the board?

Most ac units also have high and low pressure switches in them. If the pressure is to low because the refrigerant leaked out that would keep it from turning on.

With it being a sealed unit how do you check the pressure?
I did not see any signs of leaked refrigerant, that was a thought that it might have leaked but there were no signs of R22 on the AC unit or the roof.

I forgot to mention in the original post that I checked for voltage getting to the compressor and there was nothing, and that the power is getting to the relay but not from the relay. So that was why I thought it would be the relay.
I am correct in thinking that the pressure sensor would be inside the compressor so if that was the issue the power would still get to the compressor it just would not turn on?

Yes, really cold too. In fact the wife complained it was too cold!

Also meant to mention that the thermostat and 12 volt convertor appear to be working as the furnace and the AC fan comes on when selected on the thermostat. Not sure about the high and low working either as I notice no difference in the noise or the pressure of the air coming out of the vent.

Went back out tonight. The fuse in the thermostat is blown. I don't have a new fuse, going to get one tomorrow and try.
Anyone know if the thermostat fuse being blown would still all the furnace and fan tow work but not the AC?

Problem solved. It was a loose wire connection behind the thermostat for the cool wire. When the marret connected the wires there was a bad connection. Re connected it and it's cold as the Artic in the TT now.

That's weird, every time I've called I get someone within minutes. So did the service tech working on the AC when we were in FL.
