Am/fm/cd

When we purchased our Jay Flight someone had removed the stereo unit and placed a "blank out" panel in its place. It looks like all wiring is in place and speakers are still present. Can anyone tell me what brand of stereo Jayco uses ? I saw some pics and the one in the pic looks very much like a "Voyager" that is listed on e-bay. Also the measurements listed for cut out seem very close to those in our trailer. Thanks in advance for your help, Dave

Most of the units were Jensen but they switched to the iRV brand a year ago or so. The factory units can be problematic, thought. If my Jensen unit broke, I'd probably swap in a car head unit.

+1. I'd not pay a dime on the units they ship with. The only problem I saw with installing a car stereo is losing the dvd capability. I put a low end bluray in so when myJensen dies (kind ofhoping) then a good car unit will go in. The other thing I'd gain is that I plan on using the saved space as a shelf for CD wallet etc.

Here's some units I've looked at that do AM, FM, DVD. I don't know how difficult to install they might be.

Soundstream Unit

Sony Unit

They also have Jensens, if anyone is interested.

You have a golden opportunity to avoid the Jensen and iRV brands.

The blank out panel may have already been there from the factory. All Jayco trailers come fully wired with speakers even if you don't get the package with the entertainment system. Knowing that in advance, we didn't get the entertainment system on our '03 Kiwi. I simply popped out the blank and installed my own car head unit. Our current Jayco was purchased off the lot and came with the Jensen.

Look at Crutchfield's web site for options. Better yet call them and explain what you want to do. It may be they can recommend something far better than a junky Jensen for the same or even less money, and set you up with a mounting kit for free or just a few extra dollars. Crutchfield also provide free lifetime tech support.

Thanks to everyone for your replies, I really appreciate them. After reading here and reviews from those that have purchased the Jensen units, I will not consider one of those. Funny years ago Jensen was a decent brand. When I restored our 1960 Impala just a few years ago, the factory radio still worked !! Too bad quality has been replaced with throw away but so it goes. And yes, I do not like GROUND HOGS !!!LOL!! Thanks again, Dave

It may not be the Jensen that you remember.
A lot of brand names have been sold (just the brand, not the actual product or company) and once very reliable electronic brands like Zenith, Quasar, etc. are now just used as a name for generic cheap Chinese junk, playing on the former reputation of the brand.

I believe that the Jensen is made by a company called Asa Electronics now.
You'll want to sometime upgrade the Craptronic speakers that came in your rig.

Agreed...those factory speakers are horrible, paper cone pieces of junk.

My 2012 221Jay Flight has a Jenson, but it doesn't matter, as we never listen to it.
But I did notice, that the speaker wires are evidently not wired correctly.

+1 on Crutchfield. I've bought home and auto systems from them since the mid 90s and have always been pleased at their knowledge and support. Plus it's nice calling Tech Support and hearing unaccented English.

Oh well, each to their own. No more than we use our Jensen, they have worked perfectly well. My third Jayco and they have all had Jensen in them. Never had any problems. We do run our TV sound through the speakers as well for increased volume. As my hearing is not what it used to be, I probably would not hear any better with one of those others everyone speaks so highly of. We never listen to the radio anyway. Rather sit out side as much as possible and listen to the sounds of nature.
Just MHO.

Our stock surround sound AM/FM/ DVD player died. It never really worked well anyways. I don't know if we will replace it. We never used it much anyways.

We have no complaints w/ the Jenson. No one puts a top quality unit, only the basics. If you are a audiophile, plan on upgrading the unit and the speakers.

I'm missing the remote to ours but it still works, just cant tune the radio. If anyone has a remote laying around that they'd like to get rid of for a few bucks please let me know.

Hmm... From what I recall 35 years or so ago, they were no better back then either. On the other hand, for a reasonable price they made a pretty decent 6x9 car speaker that a 16 yo could afford!

It's not that they don't work, they are just crappy quality, both in terms of the unit itself and the sound quality. By itself it is close to a $400 dollar option. For less than half that you can put in something far better. I'm no serious audiophile but I can easily tell the difference. I won't replace the one that's in my X20E just to replace it. But I won't get another when it breaks.

I'll give you mine if it's the same. I'll take a picture of it in the morning

I put a square of stick on Velcro on my Jenson remote and stuck it next to the unit. It's so small and thin, I could never find it.
