Another newbie question. SLX 264BHW gas hot water

Hi folks. So I'm thinking about when boon docking. How does the water know to go via the gas water heater from the fresh water tank instead of the city water connection? Is there an automatic valve/switch over? I've been successfully heating from city water hook ups but very curious about how this happens when/if boon docking. Thanks so much in advance fir your replies. This forum is wonderful.

Your water pump picks up water from the fresh water tank, and pressurizes the plumbing, including the water heater. There's a check valve right at the city water connection that keeps the water from coming back out where the hose hooks to. On our TT, there's no valve manipulation to switch from city water to fresh water tank use. Fill the tank, and turn on the pump switch and you're in business. Happy boon docking.

You can save yourself 6 gal. of fresh water by filling your hot water heater first with city water before you fill your FWT.
