Any reason to not buy a used jayflight 29rks (2015)

long story short, my folks found that layout in another brand and I couldn't find any good reviews of that company. Jayco has the same floor plan and we have found one used for quite a savings. The biggest problem is it is located about 7-8 hours away at a dealership. It appears to be in real nice shape and the dealer says its like new condition. The pics look nice. They did tell me it has a small nick in the table top, but no bigger than a grain of rice. Is there anything we can and should look for. It sounds like they are going to put a deposit on it so the dealer will hold it until we can get there on the 25th of this month. Any advice on the model or problems with newer jaycos we should be looking for would be helpful! thank you! Dave

We had a great experience buying used. If the trailer has been well cared for, then all of those first year kinks should be worked out (although six years later I am still fixing a couple of minor factory defects that the original owners let slide).

If they are not getting any kind of warranty with the unit, then they should be doing the equivalent of a PDI walkthrough before the deal. With ours it wasn't possible to completely test out everything (no power or water on the sales lot), so we had it noted on the contract that all mechanical systems and appliances must be operational at delivery. We also had a gas recertify stipulated.

I would use the checklist here on JOF, and whatever is found should be fixed (mechanical) or discounted (cosmetic) before delivery. Also take a very close look for any signs of leakage on the unit; delamination of smooth outer walls, water stains, soft floor, damaged or missing sealant.

We also had a great experience on a used Jay Flight 29rlda 2013.
I think it really helps if you have done your research on the model and the options your looking for. If all matches make an offer
You can get comps on RV Trader for that model and year. Ours was a discontinued model so I know what I was looking for and with what options.
Make sure you have the dealer show your folks how everything works and check for leaks etc...
Good Luck

Forgot to mention that we made a 10 hr trip each way in the third week of December around the weather to get ours in Idaho. Dealer had the rig plugged in and the heater was VERY comfortable inside with the outside temps in the upper 20's.

Well, mom put down a non refundable deposit today. The only thing I couldn't see was the roof, so prior to giving her the go ahead for the deposit (which was substantial), I asked for pictures of it and it looks great. I know I cant see everything and I am at the mercy of the sales person, but they've been reasonable. I will make a copy of the PDI check list and take it with me. It sounds like we are going to stay in it the first night they own it. The plan is to drive to the dealer, inspect, and take delivery and drive an hour or two towards home and stop for the night at a CG. Please keep the suggestions coming as I want to have my bases covered once I get there. Although, it is non refundable, I would still recommend to walk away from the deposit if we found a major issue. I understand its a used camper, so it wont be perfect

I try to always buy used cars, and new TTs. There are a lot of good used RVs out there. I would look over it with a fine tooth comb, especially the roof, seams, tires. Look for any water leaks. If I saw water damage I would run fast.

Good luck!

We bought a 2013 Jayco 28DSBH in fall 2014, used. Small town dealer out of town, he said he'd make whatever right if something broke within the next year and we never had to check him on it. Look it over really good, run all the systems before you buy and save $$$$. The small town dealer laughed about all the add-ons the local dealer wanted to hit us up for, and said " we don't charge for any of that here." Do your homework, google the dealer for complaints and be happy with the extra $$$ in your pocket.

Dealer said previous owner bought it and found it was too small. Was really clean and we've never looked back. I googled the PO's last name, it was on the key tag, and dealer was telling us the truth about the guy.

I bought used private party for my second TT -- It was 26 months old. I would do it again with no hesitation. I was able to save $10k+ over my best negotiated price for the same model new. I spent a couple hours with the seller going over every inch of that TT. He was very courteous and helpful. He had all the original sales paperwork, manuals, and service order from the one and only warranty claim.

There are so many people who get an RV on spur of the moment decision and then realize its isn't for them. We see it on this forum, folks looking to sell 1-2 trailers because they don't use it like they thought or more frequently has used it enough to realize they prefer a different layout. Picking up these gently used TT is a great way to save a lot of money.

Not sure why the deposit was SUBSTANTIAL and Non-Refundable.
It seems that if the dealer was confident in their products that they would be happy to make sure your happy before making a closed end deal.
May be I'm paranoid as my experience(like yours) was very positive.

In the grand scheme of things, I guess its not that big of a deal, just more of a deposit than I had anticipated. It just makes it hard to walk away if there's something major wrong with the unit when we get there. I guess its the price you pay for not being local. The deposit may also be a bit higher than I expected because finding a new or used one in stock in the mid-west of that floor model in a jayco brand is next to impossible, apparently they sell just about as fast as they arrive to the dealer. Searching "all of craigslist" only came up with a handful of good ad's. They said they would hold it, but with the deposit because this is their busy season.

If the deposit was made by check, and they will hold the check, if you decide not to buy it you could always call the bank and cancel the check.
