I'm pretty good at doing it myself, I've gotten the GOAL (get out and look) down to about 4 iterations before I'm lined up! LOL!

DW is actually great at helping me line up, but then we've been doing it for a lot of years, the yelling and arguing stopped LONG ago...

DW and I tried hand signals....that wasn't so good. What does wave mean anyway??
Then we tried 2-way radios. Hmmm.....you mean you have to push the little button before you talk????
Now we use the 2 yellow tennis balls on top of 2 magnetic base metal extenders.......that seems to work the best and we eliminated a lot of hard feelings too. Lol

My backup camera mounted in the tail gate of my truck works wonders for me...

With the view screen feet markers and centerline I can watch the trailer hitch ball move right under the trailer hitch first time everytime (Day or Night)..

GOOGLE Images similar to my rear camera view

It's all about training. The first time we ever lined up my dad's boat (we borrowed it for the weekend when we were dating) I trained her which hand signals to use, where I needed to be, etc. We walked around, talked and looked for a good 15 minutes or so that first time. I made my expectations clear, as did she. I told her if she needed to step away where I couldn't see her, that's fine, she just needed to know I would stop until I could see her again. I've only had to honk at her once, I think she forgot this simple rule... If all else fails, she knows to yell "STOP" at the top of her lungs and I'll be on the brakes in a real hurry.

The 2-way radios worked for a while, but she couldn't figure out that she needed to wait a beat after depressing the transmit button or I couldn't hear the first 3 words out of her yammering mouth. So we haven't used them in a while, but they're still in the truck just in case we need them.

To be fair, her parents gave her a big head start with all of this, she grew up (just as I did) on boats all over Texas lakes, so she already had it down pretty good. She just walks away if I start yelling, so like I said, I haven't done that in a while.
