A couple first mods of the year complete.

Installed the bigger SC grab rail. I never really minded the small grab handle but this one is nicer and the kids can actually reach it.

Rewired the step light to a dedicated On-Off-On switch so I can turn it on manually, separate from the awning light, have it come on with the awning light, or off all together.

Installed a 2 pin charging connector in the back and ran a charge line up to the battery. Now I can easily plug in my Battery Tender to keep the battery topped off when it's sitting in the driveway workout a long extension cord or leaving the shore power plugged in.

Lots more to do on the list ... I guess I have plenty of time to get it done.

Driveway camped Friday night for our first "outing" of the year. All in all a success, although I succeeded in almost freezing the family out. Apparently the propane tank I turned on was almost empty.... Woke up with a very cold arm at 4AM and found the inside temp down to 54. Turned the other tank on and warmed it right back to. Thankfully everyone slept through it, though the kids had their blankets pulled up pretty high and the dog was curled up on the couch in a seemingly impossibly tight ball.Click image for larger version

Some of our modifications include:
- Added another kitchen cabinet along side the original cabinets
- Added a 3rd kitchen drawer
- Added a lift kit to access the storage under the bed
Where did you get the cabinet for the kitchen that matched your existing cabinets? How did you mount it? My wife saw this and now it's on my honey do list.

Installed a back splash

I got some peel & stick back splash tiles from Lowe’s. Not quite as colorful as I was hoping but I’m liking how it turned out. I realized the framing isn’t quite square though.
In any case, the wifey loves it. And that’s what I was really trying to do. :-)

Sorry the pics are upside down. Do a handstand!

We have two kids, with one on the way, if that helps. Also really not sure of the slide vs. no slide thing either. I do like the 26BH and 264 layouts.

There are four of us, and we can fill a gray tank in under 24 hours. Black tank seems to last quite awhile, and that's with me putting 8+ gallons of water down the toilet before we even start camping. (I've learned that starting out with a lot of water and a little toilet chemical does wonders for the stink issue.)

We have grown accustomed to the slideless trailer. It took some getting used to in the evenings, but we have learned a system that works for us at night when we are getting ready for bed.

Here is the advice that I give people: If you are just wanting a place to sleep and clean up, this trailer is comfortable. We do just about everything else outside and, unless the weather is bad, we only go inside to clean up and go to bed, or to get things out of the refrigerator or cabinets. We don't hang out inside.

IF you want to spend lots of time inside and see yourself kicked back and watching a movie with the family or playing lots of board games indoors, consider a unit with a slide.

To jmkdobkins.
Liked your idea about putting the extra cabinet over the side window above the couch. Perhaps I missed other posts but I would like to know where you got the cabinet and how did you mount it to the wall?
If you don’t mine sharing the purchase price I would also like to know that.
Thanks for any information.

I bought a 2018 264BHW Baja package in December of 2018 and got a great deal on it. I paid just under $15K for it.

I'm living in mine while I'm building an earth sheltered home in the Colorado mountains.

I did install a Camco vent cover over the bathroom vent so that I can run the exhaust fan with a foot of snow on the roof.

I also added a full size medicine cabinet. I had 500 gallon propane tank installed and filled with 200 gallons of propane.

I'm going to hard line the waste pipe into my newly installed septic system. I'm building an 8'X8' insulated shed to put a 1K gallon water tank in. I'll also be running shore power in as soon as I get the service entrance installed in my barn.

I just got it moved to the 'permanent' site where it will stay until I'm done with my house build so when the snow melts I'll be putting skirt around it.

One step at a time!

264BH Solar

I have a 2019 264BH. Has anyone added solar to their 264 TT?

I picked up a Renology 200W kit from Amazon on sale but here in the CO mountains several feet of snow have fallen over the winter so I may have shore power hooked up before everything melts.

Quality looks good.

Thanks Mercian.
I am looking at the same kit.
How did you attach the panels to the roof and where did you put the controller?
Thanks again.

I built a frame from 4X4's with lockable casters and move the unit around to follow the sun. I also mounted the controller on a panel that I attached to the dolly's frame work.

I'll probably keep this gear after I sell my 264 when my house is done.

Where did you get them?
I added green stage gel into the one by the outside door. It cut down on the interrogationvibe a bit.

Extra Cabinets

I first saw the extra cabinet idea on the Mods thread. That author got them through his dealer.
So, a few months ago I had our dealer order a matching door to replace the blank over the dining table. All they needed was the VIN and the part I was ordering. It came with the hardware to match, as well. All in, it was about $75.

Sorry for the late entry onto this conversation thread, but just now saw it for the first time.

We purchased our 2019 Jayco 264BHW in late September 2019 and have been on 2 trips so far. Would have been on 2 more but COVID canceled our planned trips in March and mid-May.

Like many of you, we enjoy the functional layout, simplicity and amenities of our Jayco travel trailer. And it is very easy to pull with our older F150 SuperCrew with 5.4 liter truck.

We bought our trailer new with the propane tank cover, lighted power tongue jack and back-up camera. But since have added an electrical master shutoff switch (located in the front pass-thru storage compartment), center brace for the queen size bed, new kitchen back-splash, and slide-out drawers under both dinette seats. But have gotten a lot of great ideas for more DIY mods and additions from reading this thread!

Cabinets cost

To IrishSettler,

I am sorry, I thought I had responded to your post!

I just went through my Jayco dealership for getting those cabinets to go along side the original cabinets. The dealership just needed to supply the Jayco plant of my trailers serial number so the correct finish was applied.

The cabinet and the hardware was about $150 which included the shipping.

Good luck!

Randel J: Do you have any pictures or plans for the slide-out drawers? That’s a space that really needs easier access, and that sounds like a great idea.

Jose & Kristin,

Installing the slide-out drawers were fairly simple, although it took me 3 days to do the job because I took my time at every step. Sorry I don't have formal plans of the project, but here is a list of the installation steps. Hope this helps.

1) Bought (2) slide drawer kits from Lowes for $49.95 each, (5) 8' lengths of 3/4" x 1-1/4" fir strips, and (2) drawer pull hardware to match cabinet and drawer hardware inside trailer.
2) Glued and screwed cut pieces of fir strips on the side of the inside dinette seat to brace and strengthen the wood piece before I cut the drawer hole.
3) Glued and screwed cut pieces of fir strips to the floor of the inside dinette to mount the slide-out drawer kit.
4) Cut the holes in the dinette side the width of the drawer and about 11" high.
5) Cut (2) pieces of Maple wood to mount to the drawer kit as my drawer faces, then stained the faces to match the color of the dinette.
6) Mounted drawer face to drawer kits, then added drawer pull hardware. Project done.
