We also use a bucket with the safety chains on the handle and a vinyl one for traveling. If the trailer has been sitting in the summer I give things a shake before getting to close in case bees have made a nest under the propane cover, jack cover or underneath the trailer somewhere.

I had a small plastic trash can that I put over mine when parked. Threw it in the back of the truck while underway. My jack head looked like new. The trash can didn’t as it faded pretty bad.

Yes, recently. I never did, then after 3 years in so cal sun the plastic housing looked, well, sun damaged. I saw some covers in the $30-40 range but was never sure if it would fit right. Considered getting the DW's sewing machine out n make one but realized a heavy duty trash bag n a bungee was darn near perfect. Am I trashy???

Lippert black vinyl cover from CW, $10-12. We get 2-3 years out of one that stays on 24/7.

I'm going to try an outboard motor cover

Thanks for the great discussion contained in this thread. I am concerned about the lack of UV stability on the plastic covers I've looked at. Even plastic buckets turn to brittle flakes in a short time here in the AZ sun. I am going to try using an outboard motor cover I found on Amazon for around $30. It claims to be both waterproof and UV stable. I can tell you if it is working well by this time next year!

I use my Jayco branded tire cover and a bungee when driving and camping to cover the jack. I moved my spare underneath the TT and didn't need the cover anymore. I remove it when I get home since its stored indoors and this allows air to get in.

Anyone who assumes those Electric Tongue Jacks are water proof are mistaken, none of them are. They will seize up when exposed to water intrusion. I have fixed many of them. Also they use sparingly grease with assembly, so even when you buy new take them apart and grease where necessary.

COVER UP!

I USE Aerospace 303 protectant for anything vinyl, tires, fiberglass.

The best stuff out there. Somewhat pricey.

Out here is southern Arizona a black vinyl cover would catch on fire in the summer. I use a left over squarish bucket which formally housed 3” chlorine tablets for the pool. When it begins to deteriorate I have a new one to replace it.

Absolutely - I also drape the power cord over the jack and cover the plug with the cover.

Mine is always covered when home. I use the bag that an ADCO cover came in. It's large enough to cover the jack, coupler, and both battery boxes.

I never thought about covering mine. Now that I thought about it I probably wont. 5 years with no issues.

5 gal. bucket - when traveling, door mat, wheel chocks and gloves go in the bucket, bucket goes into the truck.

I cover mine using a rectangular shaped 1 gal bucket. It goes in the back of the truck when hooked up for towing.

I cover mine with an inverted rectangular white plastic trash can. Inside I also inserted two eye bolts on sides to hook up the chains and a pressure hook in front to hold the plug. Keeps it all out of the weather and sun.

Happy RVing,
Jeff
