Anyone else replace their own propane regulator?

Got tired of waiting and didn’t want to pull her 100 miles to get it done anyway. Ordered off on Amazon and did it myself.

I’d bet many have. I purchased one with the plan of doing it myself, but dealer came through with little wait time. My only worry was clearing the recall as far as resale is concerned.

Yeah, I wondered about that but I figure a lot of folks may have replaced theirs just because they quit working by then. I can always have it inspected if I’m near a dealer at some point.

It's not that hard at all. Crescent wrench, yellow Teflon tape and a screwdriver. It's all good!

Bought a new one, took old one off, put new one on, turned in recalled one, got a new one and recall is finished. All good

Not because of the current recall but have replace a couple over the years on our various campers. The pigtails too. Very simple job, just need the right Teflon tape like MrKABC mentioned, or a little pipe thread sealant for the NPT fittings. The inverted flare fittings seal internally, and don't require it unless you want it for thread corrosion prevention down the road.

I replaced mine. If you're a decent DIYer it's no big deal. If you're not, then have someone do it once you get the replacement regulator. It is propane and could be dangerous if not done correctly. After installation, it needs to be checked for leaks and for proper operation.

It's not a difficult job, but it has to be done right.

I've done a good bit of propane work on our travel trailer. I use the Yellow Jacket test tool to ensure I have no leaks and proper pressure. Once the pressure is noted, I set a timer for 10 minutes. Once the timer is done, I check to ensure the pressure is holding at the noted level. If it is, no leaks and good to go.

Did it myself last February (pre recall). When I got the notice didn't even wake the selling dealer up, but did call the servicing dealer. They had no idea when replacement part would be available but recommended I call Jayco to report repair and get recall off books. I did, took less than five minutes and they registered the repair clearing the recall.

I finally found a MEC MEGR-253 at a local RV dealer in Texas near the site we were staying at in November and replaced it myself - works great and easy install...was able to find two MEC hoses also that go with the MEGR-253. Very pleased so far with both the regulator and the hoses...although the hoses are a bit "cramped" as they are a little longer than the original ones that were not good quality.

Just replaced mine today! I was able to locate one of the "Jayco Approved" replacements. It arrived in a few days. I completed the install, and will test it tomorrow with a manometer to be sure the regulator is at the correct 11" W.C. Initial test fire of the stove burners appears that the pressure is correct. I'll know better once tested.
I'm not looking forward to dealing with Jayco for re-imbursement and clearing the recall. I'm sure that will be fun!

Mine failed prior to the recall. Replaced it myself. Not a big deal.

Initially, both my dealer and Jayco told me that my regulator was not included in the recall based upon its build date. Months later, I received a letter from Jayco saying it was, as they extended the recall regulator build dates to 2021.

Mine did surge dangerously so I asked the dealer and Jayco when it would be replaced. To this date, I've never received a service date for the replacement. That was unacceptable.

So, I took matters into my own hands and replaced it myself.

If you do have a recalled regulator, definitely have it replaced. The surging I experienced was when I was using the stove. The flame suddenly jumped way higher than normal and then subsided. I knew then that the regulator was bad and had to go.

regulator

I replaced mine July, before I got the letter. Mine failed, venting gas and emptying the tanks. Jayco wanted the old one or a picture. Who keeps bad regulators laying around. Also they wanted me to carry it to a dealer to get it checked. May have spent $70, but I never missed camping. Glad my trailer didn't burn up.

Exactly! Threw my old one away also. Oh well, just glad it’s gone.

Before the recall our newly filled tanks emptied in about two days and the pressure was all over the place. We told the dealer and Jayco approved the change. On our way to Quartzsite we had the tanks filled and regulator replaced, under warranty.
