I was so focused on gen use with the Easy Start I never even considered a second advantage. I can start my 15K AC off a regular 15amp house outlet. I’ve had this for over a year and can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner. Much better than the noisy gen running at the house. Of course nothing else is on that house circuit and nothing in the trailer except two LED lights. I keep checking the extension chord and it’s warm but not by any means hot. It’s a pretty hefty chord too.

I installed one a few years ago to run ac off Yamaha 2400 gen. Can’t remember how I knew which wires go where as I know ZILCH about electric wiring, but it has worked w no probs. I’m sure there is a YouTube how-to. If I can do it, you can.

I've been thinking about installing a soft starter on my rear A/C so that I can run off my Westinghouse inverter generator when needed to keep us cool in the bedroom. In those situations, I wouldn't run the front A/C but does the group think it would be best to install the soft start on both anyway?

I’d do both if you can part with the $$. I’m just lazy and cheap or I’d buy another for my bedroom AC. Also, it’s the low profile so I feel like it’s a more involved install. Maybe not. Haven’t actually looked. The instructions that come with these are super simple.

It was an easy install in our 15,000 btu Mach 15 Coleman. I was able to fit the unit in the wiring enclosure rather than outside as suggested in the instructions. And can now run with my Yamaha 2000 watt generator in eco mode. I have to turn off my converter to run because my AC maxes out my generator

Correction, i was able to squeeze easy start on back wall of electrical compartment with zip screws instead of mounting to side of compartment with double sided sticky tape as in one of the instruction videos i saw

I would like to install one on our class C so we can use a15 amp plug in when mooch-docking. All I see are comments from TT and 5th wheel owners. Has anyone with a C tried this??

I think it's the same for all types of campers, although not sure for multiple roof A/Cs

The AC in the C is no different than a trailer, it will work for you. You may need to keep fridge on gas and 12v converter off when running AC while mooch docking

Soft start install

I installed a soft start on my 2019 26BH early June 2020. Installation was easy, but I had to call the company to get the exact wiring instructions. My Dometic AC didn't have a model name, like Breeze, only a number. They had me take a picture of the wiring diagram and send it to them. They called back with precise installation instructions.

I also installed an ammeter/voltmeter next to the converter. The initial AC starting current is too fast to see, but running current with the two frigs on, AC & lights are about 17 amps. I have the camper plugged into a 20 amp outlet at home, so I can run the AC while in my driveway.

I have a eu3000 generator so I know I can handle the AC without a problem. That handles 23 amp max continuous load.

I have done a current draw check of every load in the camper, so I know what I can run at any time. The volt/ammeter keeps me aware of what I'm drawing moment by moment. As long as the microwave/AC/water heater aren't run at the same time, I'm good.

I ordered the dual fuel champion that on propane will supply about 2800W. I hooked it to our 2020 Jayco HT and hit the switch for the 15K ac unit, figuring it would kill the generator.

I don't think it missed a beat, it just started up. It has a pair of Coleman AC units on top. The Coleman AC units start up without the noise of a typical RV AC unit, if the fan is running full time you can't tell if the compressor is running or not or when it starts up.

I'll see how it does with running off the generator for an extended time before I splurge on the soft start.

I know our old Fleetwood RV had a pair of Coleman AC units and it only had a 30A plug on it. The controls made sure neither one would start at the same time though.

Conversely, the Dometic AC unit we installed on our old Airstream made sure you knew when the compressor started.
