Anyone installed an A/C Easy Start soft starter?

I'm curious if anyone has installed an Easy Start soft starter for their air conditioner? I have one and I'm going to dive into the install this week and wanted to hear from someone who has installed it and used it.

I installed this on our ORV 23DBS last summer and it's been working great. We are able to run the 13.5K AC unit off our Champion 2000 watt inverter when needed. When on shore power the startup of the unit is much smoother than before - no loud clunk when it kicks in. It's a pretty simple install - took about 45 minutes given I forgot a couple key tools and had to get off the roof twice...

Well I've already got you beat as I sat up on the roof for 45 minutes looking at it. We have two Honda 2000 watt generators that I had been hooking together to run the AC so hearing you can run yours now with a single one is exactly what I'm looking for. I imagine you can't run the AC and something like a microwave at the same time eh?

That is correct - no microwave while running the A/C on the small Champion. If not needed, I also flip the breaker on the converter/charger to help reduce the load. If you are looking to reduce the need to have both Honda's running concurrently this will definitely help, but you'll need to monitor your loads, especially at higher elevations and hotter temps.

As for the install - I spent a bit of time reviewing the installation video on their web site and found that my A/C unit was set up exactly like the one they were demonstrating with so that made it easy to map out and complete the wiring. Good Luck on the install - I think you'll be happy with the results.

I just installed the micro air easy start since I run off my 15 amp on the driveway when working in the trailer or getting ready to leave. Can hardly hear the compressor cut in. I am now ready for a small generator if I ever need one.

It was an easy install in our 15,000 btu Mach 15 Coleman. I was able to fit the unit in the wiring enclosure rather than outside as suggested in the instructions.

I have the same size a/c unit. Do you know if a 3000 watt Honda inverter would run it with one of those or would I have to continue running both generators

I suspect it would unless you are at a higher elevation. Based on my research, I would be able to use a 3000 watt gen without issues and have considered a Generac 3000 because it is less than 60 lbs. But I am only at 750 feet above sea level. Anything over 6,000 feet could be a problem.

Just installed one last weekend on my Coleman 15,000 BTU Mach 15. My Yamaha 2000 runs it fine

I installed the Micro Air Soft Start 4 years ago. A/C runs fine on 1 - 2000 Watt Yamaha Inverter generator. I tend to carry 2 Yamahas (at 47 lbs. they are easier to move around)
when we demand more power.

Ok thanks guys. The only issue I see is the install but it seems pretty straight forward.

Have you tried to start your AC with one 2000? My 2018 will already run on one Honda 2000. I read somewhere where the manufacturers are putting the soft start on newer units. Starting in 2018. That seems to be true on our Jayco.

I've tried it with just one Honda 2000 on our 2018 camper with a standard 13500 unit and it wouldn't do it.

The install video really does help and they have some PDF's you can download that are brand specific for you AC unit.
Here is their install video:

I finished the install and did the 5 learning cycles on shore power and I can now run our 13500 AC with our Honda 2000 generator.

For those interested in doing this I'd suggest watch the video and get a complete list of tools you need so you don't have to climb up and down 4 times like I did.

For my Dometic AC unit they had a PDF available that went into detail on the various types of units they have which made it very easy.

Good decision to go with the Honda. Most people don’t look at the specs of the various 2000 watt generators. The Predator 2000 (from Harbor Freight) USS $499 but has a 79.7cc engine. The Honda 2000 has a 98.5cc engine but has been discontinued. The new Honda 2200i has a 121cc engine and is $949. The 2200 has a 50% bigger engine than the Predator, but you wouldn’t know it by the model name.

I run my 15k AC at 8k Elevation with a single Honda 2200 and the EasyStart. Works like a champ.

Installed one on our 2010 Jayco, works like a charm, use it with my Honda 2200 generator, also when i'm on shore power there isn't a big amp draw.

It’s possible to run a 13500 a/c unit without an easy start on just one 2000-2200 Honda generator. If you put your fridge over to propane/(then auto once running), turn off eco mode on the generator, then start your a/c with just the fan initially until it’s up to speed then turn it onto cold and everything will hum along nicely.
That said, I’m about to install an easy start 364 from hutch mountain (excellent customer service!) because I don’t want to put any unnecessary strain on a quality generator (Honda 2200i) that I haven’t even used yet! Lol
Definitely worth the investment.

Absolutely worth every penny to install the Micro-Air for me. I can run the AC no problem with my little 2200 Honda and can barely hear the AC kick on the compressor is so quiet. I can hear a click then all the sudden air is rushing in from the vents.
