Anyone tried these as leveling blocks?

I stumbled across this and wanted to get your guy’s thoughts on these.

Think they’d work?

If nothing else, the guy is hoot to read. I don't see any reason they wouldn't work just fine. You can't go wrong by trying them.

I cut up some stall mat just like that. Got mine from tractor supply. They work great.

They’re great

I carry 8 of them approximately 10 X 10 and will cut 4 more before my next trip - easy to cut with a reciprocating saw - $39.00 for a 4 X 6 mat from T S - my only hesitation is that they are heavy but they are really great - if you have extra $$ you can buy “ Hoss Pads “ at C W or off of the web but they are very pricey Les

Ditto on the Anderson's. I just back up until my wife says "level", and we're done. Why would I want to guess how many layers of rubber mat chunks I'll need, and likely have to add or subtract them to get level.

On the Andersons, I assume you need 2 sets of them?

I did the same thing. Just so happens that each layer corresponded to each tick mark on my level. They don’t move or slip and most importantly, chocks grip very well on top.

I don’t use them as much now that I have an auto level system, but still carry them for when sites are way off.

Highly recommend it.

For a double-axle trailer like ours you need one for each wheel, so two. Cost me less than $80. I used to use the “Legos” which were OK but the Andersen is great. It’s an incremental rise, so if I need a half-inch more, I just ease ahead slightly. Can do without DW if necessary.

We have the orange lego kind of levelers. I am going to cut some rubber conveyor belting that I found and put that under the legos. The Legos sink, split and crack on unlevel ground. I think the belting will help with that. Maybe just one layer of the stall mats will save your plastic leveling blocks if you still have them.

I use 2x8 PT wood. I have 2 that are 4' long to span both wheels and 4 that are 2' for single wheels. We are rarely parked on a smooth pad so any of the plastic products would break apart on the rocks and gravel. The back side of the 4' boards have metal straps on them to control the splitting. After 3 yrs I replaced the 2' boards, the 4' boards are still good. I also carry a couple of 3/4 plywood squares to fine trim. Worst site last winter was a stack of boards 4 layers thick on one side, nothing on the other.

How do you back a trailer up onto the small squares of rubber?

I use a combo of this plus the Andersens. I found the Andersen levelers would slip on some surfaces, and would sink into really soft sand surfaces. So I carry two rubber stair treads (used for winter safety) that are very similar to the stall mats, about 12" wide by 48" long. They are pretty heavy, but I only need 2, and they stop the Andersens from slipping on hard surfaces or sinking into soft ones.

I had this question in my head as well. I’m guess you step them up maybe? I have a couple rubber mud flaps that I will use and probably purchase the Andersons. That was my original gut feeling. Weight is always a concern for me so trying to find the optimal cost vs. functionality vs. weight.

I'm still using my original 12 YO lego blocks. However, they are getting a bit gnarly and will have to be replaced within the next 4 or 5 years. I prefer them because they are light weight but like mentioned, they get messed up on gravel.

I've got three sets of 10 to take care of the dual wheels and so I can step them.

I cut up a stall mat from Tractor Supply as well. 26$ and I made 6 - 10"x 10" pads I put under the lego blocks to save them from getting destroyed by gravel and 2 - 4 ft x 14" pads that I park on when at the storage unit to keep the tires off of the sharp gravel. Works great and much cheaper than the Hoss Pad brand ones.

Andersen now sells a mat specifically to stop this skid. Mine came with one.

I have seen them sold separately,

We did it her way

We gave up on the lego blocks, 4'X4"'s, and other stuff. She who must be obeyed came home with a 10"x10" 4 feet long and said use it. She got it from where they were building a house and asked for it as it was in a junk pile. We cut it into 6" thick pieces, attached ropes and they look like this. Nice is that we don't have to play with the pins for autoleveling.
