Awning arm question

I was talking with a friend on a recent trip about the flaws with the power awning. I discussed that putting gusset vents in the top of the awning would probably make it stand up to the wind better.

Then I had an idea... I've got a 16' triangle sun sail shade that we don't use anymore. I figured I would hang that shade up when we just need sun protection and it's too windy for the awning (lake and beachfront camping come to mind). The triangle shade allows air to pass through it, and it's slightly curved against the trailer wall in order to allow a big gust of air to pass through. I'm using a pole and tension cord to support the 3rd corner.

I initially hung it off the awning rail, then I thought about replacing the top awning pin with an eye hook. The 3/8 bolt with eye so far seems to work fine. The only problem thus far is that the front awning rail doesn't fit flush anymore, the bottom sticks out a little because the top of the arm hits the nut and doesn't allow it to flush fit.

See pics for details, the picture with the Jayco graphic visible is the front arm sticking out slightly.

My question is if this will cause problems driving down the road, with the arm sticking out a little. Any thoughts?Click image for larger version

My ocd would not allow me to leave that mod in place while traveling. After my awning arm was recently damaged by Camping World I did drive with my awning in a similar position, but mine isn’t quite as far out as yours. Zip tie it if want to be sure it’s secure. I use the Carefree Vacation’r room to secure my awning in the wind. It’s held up to some pretty stiff wind for 6 years.

We don't have a power awning, but that would make me nervous. Even our manual awning gets Velcro straps around the arms before we travel.

I tend to agree..., both arms should be as snug to the TT sidewall as possible insuring that the fabric roller tube is tight. The OEM power awning arms are pretty flimsy even without any modifications.

I put velcro around my power awning arms when traveling......., miss the robust design of my prior TT's "manual" awning.
