Awning Cleaning

Hi Folks,

First time posting here.

Any advice on cleaning the under side of my awning? I just unrolled it and have some black mold.

Thanks!

Mix up some bleach, dawn and hot water in a garden sprayer. Coat both sides of the awning and roll it back up for about 15-20 minutes. Open it back up and hose it off. Just wear old clothes and watch your eyes.

There's lots of productspeople use. I've used a product called "spray power". Spray it on. Roll up the awning. Let it site an hour or so. Open, scrub, rinse.

Mold Armor with Stain Remover. You can find it on Amazon, at Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, etc..
Somewhat the same recipe as Grumpy said and like he said, wear old clothes, protect your eyes, spray on and roll it up for about 15 min, unroll and hose it off. Some stains may require a second spray and mild scrubbing. IF there are any remaining stains I've used one of those Magic Erasers. After that, any stains that remain, you ain't getting out.

Just another product recommendation - 30 second outdoor cleaner. Procedures / precautions are the same as everyone stated. Most of the commercial products are nothing more than a bleach / soap mix so the cheapest route is Grumpys suggestion. The others are just pre-mixed easier methods.

Use this with whatever cleaner floats your boat. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-ON...4500/311738437

Personally, I'd stay far away from bleach and bleach containing products, since it's sodium hydroxide, which is a corrosive chemical that makes vinyl brittle eventually. I've never been disappointed from dish soap, simple green, even murphy's leaves the vinyl in good shape and doesn't get brittle from them. A UV protector on the sun side after cleaning is also a good idea. (303 Aerospace is popular)

When we don't have access to various cleaners, I mix 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of Dawn liquid dish soap in a 1-gallon pump sprayer. I spray both sides of my awning then roll it up for about an hour or so. Afterwards I unroll, rinse off and let dry.

The vinegar and Dawn are NOT harsh chemicals but they sure do the trick.

Spray Nine

Just did this in the fall.

Spray under side of awning with Spray Nine, roll the awning back up and wait 1 hour. Unroll awning and scrub with brush (I use an extendable brush made for auto cleaning). Rinse, the results were amazing and no fear of damage to awning

Grumpy has it. I haven’t tried all of the other products but the ones I have tried don’t work as well as Grumpy’s recipe.

Right, I saw that on an RV post and it works great. I wet the side of the motorhome and sprayed the underside with the cleaner, rolled it up and rinsed the motorhome off again. I waited 10 minutes and rinsed, the awning looked like new

I don't use bleach

I do not use bleach. I have used laundry detergent and dawn dish soap. I mix it in a garden sprayer to apply it m, roll up the awning for a few hours or sometimes overnight the use a soft brush to scrub and rinse. Do not use a power washer as it will put pin holes in the vinyl.
I believe that my owner manual says bleach will void the warranty too.

Miracle Mist Mold & Mildew worked wonders on my heavily soiled awning.

Available at Walmart among other venues.

We have it here in Colorado also. That is a real good degreaser for the concrete slab as well.

I’ve used Spray Nine on everything from boats to bicycles and my rv awnings. Our neighbour was going to replace his awning last year so I gave him some spray nine, told him to spray the underside, roll up for fifteen minutes and brush with a soft car brush then rinse. Came our looking like brand new. Best part is that it’s not corrosive like bleach. Works great on lawn furniture, golf carts and anything else vinyl, plastic or metal.
