Awning for tip out

Hello my dear owner friends,

I recently bought a 2-16 Jayco x213 and loved it. That said, we had the lovely experience to close the bud tip out while it was pouring rain... Consequence, the water on the roof of the bed tip out came rushing down inside the trailer! I inquired at our dealer if we could have an awning installed on the tip out but they said because of the length of the tip out (King size bed) none is available?

I was wandering if any of you had the same experience and if so do you have a solution other than trying to wipe off the water quicker than it accumulates on the roof of the tip out??

Thanks in advance!

I guess I'm not real sure what you are talking about. I have no idea what a "bud tip out" is. I assume you are talking about a "bedroom slide out". Camping World sells Dometic slide toppers up to 192" long.

I remember a thread on here some time back where some member was selling a set of pop up gizmos. I have seen tarps used also to keep water off the end canvas.

PUGs probably won't work for the X213. The bed unit is a hardwall slide out, not a canvas drop bunk. The Dometic is probably an option. A low tech solution is to adjust your level to slightly rearward just before retracting so the rain runs away from the opening while you are retracting.

The difficulty you may encounter is the length of your bed slideout. It is very long and I don't know if Carefree or Dometic make one that extends that far. But if you checked directly with them you would know. The width is no issue, the have them in widths to match.

Good luck!

Looked at Dometic's site, and don't see anywhere that you can specify a length, only a width. I kind of doubt a standard topper will extend out roughly 7'. Dometic does offer a "case awning" that goes over the "patio" of a toy hauler; that might fit.

But also had another thought; I think it might be very difficult to mount either of these without covering/removing the marker lights on the front of your unit. Not sure if these are required by regulation? Worth checking into.
