If you have an electric awning you just take it in at night or if the wind picks up. If you have a manual awning some people use deflapers, tent stakes on the arms, and some use tie down kits.

I used to use two pieces of angle iron about 18" long that I drove into the ground at an angle. I had two stiff springs attached to the irons and used a pair of motor cycle tie downs to hold it tight. Now I just push the button.

.

If a manual awning and its long (which has a higher risk of being bent from weather), some folks use an optional centre support pole.

re: http://www.modmyrv.com/wp-content/ga...-collage-1.JPG

If wondering, I use a centre support (both horizonal and vertical) rails at my seasonal site. I also used 2 x flappers on each side as well. Thus, elimination of noise and possible tearing. Some folks at my seasonal site use a large hurricane strap - that goes over the centre of the awning. If its going to be that windy, I pull my slide awning it. Keeping the awning on a steep slope helps as well.

Both Centre Support Poles and De-flappers can removed by hand. no special tools are required.
