Arrow Axle Upgrade

Hello Jayco Friends! I have a bent trailer axle on my 2016 Jayco Flight 34 footer. After getting 2 shops suggestions I have decided on upgrading to tandem 6K axles.

My question is, should I keep the stock 3500# leaf springs to insure a smooth ride or should I upgrade to a heavier leaf springs like 5200-6000# leaf spring as well?

Also, is there any issue with ride height to allow for an upgraded 16 inch tire and rim?

Has any one had any experience with this?

We recently did the axle upgrade from 3500 to 5200LB axles on our 2015 Jay Flight 26BHS. Went with 2400LB/wheel springs Vs. the standard 1750LB/wheel springs. Stuck with the 15in wheels however new 6 lug Vs. 5 lug original. This raised the trailer about 2 1/2 inches but that's a small sacrifice knowing we are well under axle/spring/wheel/tire capacities.

Thanks for the info NYB! I had 4 new 6000# leaf springs ordered but I put it on hold until I heard from the forum after I got concerned it would make the ride to harsh for the 7000 trailer.

Greetings lockflower,
I've just experienced axle issues for the 2nd time and I'm looking to upgrade my 3500# Dexter axles and tires on my 2020 Jay Feather 27RL. First bent axle came with less than 2000K on the trailer. Fortunately, Jayco covered the cost under warranty. Second axle issue occurred 3 weeks ago on the same axle when I hit a pothole in Tennessee on my way home from Florida. I'm sure Jayco is not going to cover this one. I do not overload my trailer except for essentials but feel, like you, that the 3500# axles are not adequate. Would you please send me the supplier(s) and part/serial numbers of the parts you purchased to complete your mod?
Thank you for your time and consideration!
Regards,
Gregory Peck

I purchased the new axles from here. I opted to upgrade my rims and tires. I bought rims from amazon and tires from costco. You can save hundreds if you buy a package deal with axles, springs, bolt kit, rims and tires from trailer parts outlet.

You need to get your exact specs from your axel sticker. My spring mounts were spaced 68.5". The axle I bought was 1/2 wider than the stock one but it had no negative consequence. I opted for new 15" rims instead of 16inch. The axle site has two types of axles. They have Dexter axles that have the bow most trailer axles have and they also have a TK axle that has no bow. I went with the no bow axle. Only time will tell if it was the right choice between the two.

I took the trailer on a few hundred mile road trip a few weeks back and everything performed perfectly.

If you have questions, just ask.

My rear 3500lb axle bent, so I decided to upgrade them both to 5200lb axles. The manufacturing company used the heavy duty beams but used 5 bolt hubs so I could reuse my 5 bolt aluminum rims. I kept my original leaf springs and the trailer rides awesome now.

I'm looking at upgrading my axels as well. Just got a quote on Rockwell American 5200 axels. Does anyone have experience with these?

I just upgraded my 267bhsw from 3500# to 6000# axles. Rear axle was bent and wearing tires out in the inside.

I'm convinced that 3500# axles are insufficient for travel trailers weighing up to 7000#.
