Bad idea? Storage in compartment below fridge with water heater

I am changing the hatch to access the water heater which is under my fridge. Currently has two screws which probably won't thread many more times. Have hinges and latch, but curious if it is a bad idea to add a wire basket to the door for some storage?

You'll know right away if there is a leak.

Just did something similar. Bought Kreg pocket door drill tool to use recessed soft close pocket door hinge and those spring catch used on most other caninet doors in coach Havnt decided what kind of added storage it might provide. I did it to ease access to HWH and plumbing. Might need to relocate the 120vac line if want to use some space. I wouldnt add the basket to door as they are pretty flimsy and prob break at corner joints. Wife gonna fill in those screw holes and touch up with paint to hide. Plan is to add door handle like the utensil drawers use to match. Included pic of what inside of our door now looks like. Had to buy 1 inch offset soft close pocket hinge off Amazon as local HD and Lowes only had 1 3/8 or 3/4 offset and neither work to center door in opening.

I did the same thing. Added a removable wall set up.
