Bad smell

After a long weekend of camping i pulled to a sewer dumpsite. After dumping my black and grey tanks i got home to my T.T parking pad and went to open my slide. The sewer smell in the camper was horrible. Could it be my black vent line and has anyone ever had this happen.. thanks

Have you verified that the black tank is emptying fully? I once had a clog and didn't realize. Then halfway through a long trip we started getting a sewer smell with every flush. Come to find out it was only emptying a fraction of the tank. While it wasn't full, it was above the vent pipe line, so it could no longer vent the sewer gas.

Also, check your gray tank and your sink traps. Even if you had stuff in your black tank, you were traveling and it shouldn't have gotten a smell in the camper until you flushed.

Driving can also empty your p traps allowing gasses to come back up drains. If you notice any smells the first thing to do is run water down your drains to fill your P traps back up.

Or if your black vent is close to a roof vent the smell can come in there as well.

Hopefully it is an easy fix.

Another possibility is just the air pressure while travelling. If you clear the air, and it doesn't come back, that is quite likely. Basically a situation can develop where the air pressure caused by the wind across the top of the vent stack forces air back down into the tank, and it can back up into the TT.

There are aerofoil type caps that create negative pressure at the top of the stack to ensure that gasses don't back up. Like this or similar: https://smile.amazon.com/Lippert-Com...ds=rv+vent+cap

After you dump your black tank, do you run some water in the tank through the toilet? If so make sure you leave some water in the toilet for sealing out gasses.

I leave one of my roof vents open when traveling in order to eliminate this problem.
