Bathroom Skylight Heat Loss

My wife is wanting me to get a Camco Reflective Vent Insulator Foam Pad to help with keeping the bathroom warm during the cold. But the Skylight above the tub seems like would be a worse culprit of heat loss more so than the vent fan over the toilet. Is there anything made to insulate the Skylight?

John,

There may be something out there, but my recommendation would be is to use one of these: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...24-x-16-/26406 I don't use one my bath skylight, but have one for each of my entry doors.

Using the foam insulator for the vent fan is still a good idea....., I have one for all my vents.

I don't worry about heat loss in my TT bath because I keep the floor heat vent closed as well as the door.

Thanks Rustic, I should be able to make something like that work.

You can also go to the local ACE hardware store and pick up a roll of reflective insulation and a box of stick on velcro. Just cut it out to the sizes you need.

What also works well is bubble wrap. The kind with the larger bubbles. Just wet the wrap with a sponge and it will adhere to windows or you may have to tape it to the skylight. This has the benefit of letting in light as well. I saw this in Dec. issue of TL. They also have other ideas on how to survive a winter in your RV .

Yes it does. Sorry for the confusion. I buy the digital issues which are very reasonable. They arrive before the printed ones are out.

Go to Lowes or homes depot and buy a roll of Reflectix. It is foil over thin bubble wrap.
I pulled the screws out of the corners of the inside skylight cover and cut a piece of reflectix to fit between the outer skylight and then reinstalled the interior cover.
This cut the heat loss andgGain in the summer alot. I chose this method because I am tall and if the skylight was covered inside my head would the cover when showering.

It just occured to me that the skylight in our trailer is a doubble thing with some dead air space between the layers. I don't think they will lose a lot of heat.

I haven't seen many complaints about losing heat through skylights but plenty about gaining heat through them. If I can't talk Jayco into not putting a skylight in the trailer I'm going to order, I'll take the darned thing out. Besides heat gain, it's just a matter of time before it leaks; I want to deal with it while I'm still young enough.

I really like the shower skylight. The roof needs regular inspection anyway. It really keeps mildew down in the shower stall.
