Battery box

We have a 2018 Hummingbird. Our battery box was not bolted to the frame. Should this have been done at the factory?

No, battery boxes are only strapped to the frame.

if not done correctly id be worried the bolt heads could rub through the bottom of the battery over time. mine have been just strapped on all the trailers over the years

All of my battery boxes have been screwed or bolted to the trailer. My battery boxes all have pockets for the screws preventing contact with the battery.

Never bolted the box down, just the strap. I would be worried that the bolts would cause the box to crack. You would have to have an all out crash to unseat the battery box from the frame even without a strap. I worry about loosing the lid, not the battery box itself.

I use a ratchet tie down to hold the battery box down. I think it's more secure than the strap and buckle.

X2 on the load strap, lightweight one, but still much more positive hold. Cut off and heat melted excess strap!

I decided to remove the original battery box strap when I added the second battery box. I went with a chain for security. Granted a bolt cutter would go right through it, but the average battery thief will see the chain and proceed to the TT with the strap.
