Battery charge

Hi all, first of all we are new to camping and this 2018 jayco slx 284 BHS is our first camper. I have a question on the trailer battery. I noticed when plugged in to AC power that the battery is being fed 13.4 volts. my question is does the camper have a smart maintainer charger that is supposed to shut down charging when the battery is fully charged? Mine seems to always be charging at 13.4 volts. Is that normal? I did not want the battery to be over charging all the time.

Your model is new enough it should have a modern charger that won't overcharge. But, it could be broken or your battery could be in poor shape.

Check wiring for corroded or poorly made connections.

13.4 is typical for maintenance voltage on a modern charger.

You are not "overcharging" until over 14.2 at which voltage lead-acid batteries start to create gas bubbles. Gas bubbles displace the gel electrolyte which can reduce capacity although they are re-absorbed to some extent.

On non-gel lead-acid batteries where you can add distilled water, occasional perturbations as high as 15.5 volts can actually be beneficial when rising bubbles stir up the electrolyte and break up stratification.

Normal, nothing to worry about. It will go to 14 volts every so often for a short period of time and that is also normal. The instructions for your converter will show you operating voltages.

We just purchased the camper used. We did not get any instructions with it. Is there a website with this info? Thanks for your help.

Still using the battery that came with our new 2015 24FBS. Except for two weeks of boon dock camping (small generator used for charging$, the TT is plugged into 120v outlet. Old battery still holds voltage but has diminished Ahrs. Installed a new battery in parallel with 1,2, All, Off marine switch.
