Battery Disconnect While On Shore Power

I heard a new one today. Can you run your TT on shore power and disconnect the 12v battery?

Not if you want any of your 12v items in the trailer to work. The converter is charging the battery so you don’t drain while using it and powering your 120v outlets and items in the RV. You disconnect the battery and there is no way for your 12v items to get power.

I was doing some work on the 5th at the storage lot and didn’t take the battery. Ran an extension cord and used my dog bone adapter to get some AC. Discovered I had no 12v which was puzzling. I switched the battery disconnect “on” and bingo, I had 12v (careful to not let the battery cables touch each other or ground).

You need to be careful doing that with high load items in the rig, like slides, inverters or water pumps. The battery acts like a "shock absorber" or buffer when a high amp item is run, and takes the instant surge.
