Battery Fluid Level Inspection

So we bought our 248RSBW 1 year ago.At that time 2 Interstate group 24 batteries were installed.
Trailer has been stored hooked up to shore power.

After reading some threads here saying that the converter can cook the battery fluid out I thought I should check which I did yesterday.

What I found was half of the cells were full and the others were lower with fluid above the plates. Will top those off today.

Also found that the polypropylene hold down straps have been disintegrated by the sun.

I had the same issue, when my battery was new. I assumed the fluid levels where not consistent when new. But that was only a guess.

Those straps are junk. Drill a couple holes through the bottom, and bolt the box down to the tray. Then I took a piece of black electrical wire, lopped around the box and give it a few twist. All it has to do is hold the lid on.

The newer "Smart Chargers" prevent the boil out, but you should still check them every couple months.

New straps are inexpensive to replace:

Just make sure to use distilled water when topping off batteries; do not use tap water. You can get gallon jugs at any grocery store for less than a $1/gal.
