NOT NORMAL! Removing the cable was a good move.

If you don't have a digital multi-meter, get one.
Is your trailer under warranty?

Battery Issue

Dealer will probably try to tell you that the battery is bad.

I have a 28RLS and as others have said this is not normal. The converter has three stages of charging and the charging voltage will depend on the charge state of the battery (voltage gets lower as the battery gets closer to being fully charged). The converter should automatically lower the voltage as the battery gets closer to being fully charged. The converter may not be functioning properly and overcharging the battery.

I disconnected both battery cables and took a voltage reading at the battery cables also I am plugged into my house the reading is 13.6 volts so I am suspecting the battery

In absorption mode the converter should be putting out 13.6V to run 12V stuff in the RV and slow charge the battery. In bulk mode the converter is putting out 14.4V for a more rapid charge of the battery but it's only suppose to do that for a limited time (four hours is what the manual for the WFCO 8900 series). If it stays in bulk mode for more than four hours there may be something wrong with the battery and may be the reason the battery is overheating and putting out steam.
