Battery post question

The battery was stolen from 2012 Jayco 29 RLDS. I THINK the negative post is on the left side (slide side) of the trailer. Can anyone tell me if that is correct so when I buy another one I can get the correct one.

I can set my battery in the battery box either way. I like the posts in the front so I put it in with the negative on same as the driver's side of the TV but if I turned the battery around then the posts would be toward the back and the opposite would be true.

Either way would be fine.

The dealers, not Jayco, install the batteries. I doubt there is any consistency. As said above, either way should be fine.

The negative wire should connect directly to the frame. For future reference you should mark them.

If there is a fuse on the battery connecting wires, it goes on the positive terminal.

What I always do is look at the battery case and find the word 'NEG' or the symbol '-' and make sure this has the cable that goes to frame ground. Can't depend on the colors for RV's. They are suppose to be BLACK for POS or + and the WHITE for frame ground for NEG or '-' Certainly don't want to REVERSE POLARITY connect the batteries blow some hard to find fuses somewhere...

This is different than then automotive world which uses RED for POS and BLACK for NEG that most of us old timers are used to seeing. Easy to hook up wrong...

Since we all carry CAMERAS now on our cell phones alot of folks will take a picture of the battery connections that are correct so they don't get it mixed up when removing the cables.

Sorry to hear about the theft. I hate thieves!

If you have an inline fuse holder on one of the power cables, that cable is the positive cable.

I put a piece of yellow electrical tape on each wire lead and marked them "+" or "-" for quick reference.

x2 on find the GROUND wire(s).

Those connect to the negative side of the battery on anything built this century.

Test the tongue jack after hooking everything back up. If you goofed that one (neither side connects to ground) it won't work (both on positive) or operates backwards (reversed polarity).

Thank you for all the help. I have the battery in the box with the posts up front, so I guess the negative is the post on the driver side of the TV. I didn't even think of looking to where it is grounded to the frame, Thanks again for the help
