Bedroom slide-gap at top
Hi all
As some of you know, we just picked up our new 2015 Jayco Jayflight 33RLDS last week. The day we picked it up, the temps had dipped into the upper 20's.
When we did the walk through at the dealer, we noticed no issues with the bedroom slide not moving in. The walk-through was in the heated shop.
We came home, and even though we know the sides really should not be moved in/out in low temps, we couldn't resist opening it for the night just to explore it and spend some time inside.
The next afternoon, the temp was just above 30 degrees (plus wind, ugh) and we moved the bedroom slide in. There was a good sized gap at the top even through it was in as far as it would go. My husband shoved it as far in as he could and we were able to place the brace bar inside at the top, but the slide is still protruding out about an inch at the top.
My question is, is this because of the cold, or is it defective? I'm going to wait until it gets a little warmer next week (supposed to be in the 40's) and try opening/closing it again to see if it closes the gap, but I was wondering if the cold made the seals stiff and didn't allow the slide to move as it normally should?
Signed, wondering if I need to make an appt. at the dealer...

I am not aware of any temperature limitations on operating the slides??? Did you have a sufficient charge in the battery? I would open and close it again with it either plugged into shore power or your TV, just to see what happens.

Myself and others have had a similiar problem. Read through this thread and see if there's any help there. My post is #4.

Get some of this at your local auto store, even Home Depot or lowes. Spray your slid rails...solves tons of problems. And I have used slide outs below zero. Should not be a problem. As stated above make sure plenty of battery power.

one thing to think about too is how level was it when you opened the slide ... our bedroom slide is a single rail slide and if it is unlevel front to rear or side to side by much it wont open and close right ... also open it and make sure something didn't inadvertently get in the way of it closing on the floor of camper or either side

All great info here, thanks!
We were plugged in to shore power, but honestly we were eyeballing it to see if it was level....that could be part of the issue.
I saw a thread here a while back that discussed moving in/out the slides in cold temps, and one person mentioned that they called their dealer who told them not to operate slides in temps under 20 degrees (I think?) because the seals would be more brittle. Not sure how true this is.

Our dealer sprayed down all of our rails and included two bottles of lubricant when we picked it up. Pretty sure this is what they gave us but I'll need to go look. Thanks!

There should not be a gap at the top.
I had the same problem, with an older unit. There can be several adjustments on the slide mechanism to make the wall fit.
There are several different slide mechanisms, but I would bet it is a Lippert.
Such as this one. http://www.happijac.com/index.php/products/slide-outs
Just my thoughts.

My 33 RLDS has bedroom slide issues. When I retract it I always "help" pull in the top with my right hand as I work the button with my left..If I don't, it will stop moving before its in all the way.

When did it develop this issue?

I probably noticed it early on. For me, my method works and its not worth 2 hours each way, twice, to drop it off at the dealer. I write it off as expected issues in a coach of this price range. I have 100 problems and I wont let this small issue be one for me
If it bothers you I guess you could bring it back and hope it wont be worse when the tech monkeys start fooling with it..

I don't have that problem with mine. Just curious where did you purchase yours from?

Update: My husband went out and moved the slide out then back in when the weather warmed up some. It moved in much better than before, and after he placed the brace bar in a different place the slide was pulled all of the way in appropriately.

Have/had the same issue with the wardrobe slide on my Eagle 328 RLTS. I lubed all the gaskets and made as many adjustments as possible without compromising even sealing on all four sides. I spoke with Jayco and was told that the top of the slide will not close tightly due to slide being such light weight, and that is why they supplied the slide lock to use during travel. I have thought about modifying the slide bracket to get the adjustment necessary to bring the top in tighter, but since the slide lock brings it in OK, I have not fooled with it too much. I have a good seal and no water leaks, so I will live with it.
Seems to me it could be a pretty simple design redirection to solve the problem. I think supplying a slide lock to fix the issue is pretty lame.

Slide lock to me is more a safety deal while traveling. My old Hybrid came with 2 for the one big slide. If it was loaded up and top heavy, I could see the top tilting open on the road. I mean nothing really locks it in place except the bottom mechanism..

Re: Gap at the top of the bedroom slide.
Please see my post of this day on the same problem. It is not a temperature related problem. It is a Jayco engineering problem. The large slides work properly I assume this is a failure of company policy. Leo
