Best satellite system

Hey folks. Where we camp I receive NO over the air TV signals. What suggestions do you have for a satellite TV system that I can buy. Because of trees I don't believe a roof system would be as useful as a dish I can move around on the ground but I don't know for sure.
Thanks in advance!

rv4tv.com. Have some great tripods there to hold up the high definition direct TV dish. I don't go anywhere without my satellite, especially during football season. Also depends if you already have service at home, that you can take a receiver with you. We have direct TV at home so I just pull a receiver out and go with it. Dish's can be found abandoned anywhere. My installer gave me an extra dish. Direct TV also has a mobile package if you want to pay for one and you are already a subscriber.

X2 for rv4tv.com. I had a Slimline dish from my former s&b and ordered a tripod from rv4tv.com. It has been used full time for the past 5 years and is still going strong.

Thanks guys. Any idea what a basic package cost from Direct TV? I really only want local news.

Don't know price of Direct, but it doesn't matter to me, wouldn't have it. A Dish HD 211 receiver is about a hundred to buy or 7 or 8 to lease. Dish charges 7 or 8/mo but you can start and stop service with a phone call, no charge. Easiest hookup would be to a Tailgater you must buy from a retailer for about 350. Set it on the ground, attach the included coax to Tailgater and receiver. It finds sats by itself in no time. For local news call Dish, give them your temporary address or zip code, and in a few minutes you are set. Not sure of their cheapest programming package but it was $30. My experience with Dish since they first launched has been mostly satisfactory. Twice I tried to go Direct for the NFL package but the misinformation from them P....d me off. Check consumer reviews and make up your own mind.

I spent a lot of time researching the pros and cons of everything, and the Dish Tailgater is what I settled on.

Had the tailgater for 3 years and it took a poop. Got a Winegard pathfinder x2. It is a little bigger than the tailgater but does the same thing. hook it up, then turn it on and it will find it satalites. The one big difference is with the winegard is the top have turns and you can see it whereas the Tailgater doesn't. We love ours, It is Dish.

I purchased a separate receiver so I don't have to move receivers all the time and I wanted it mounted securely. I've found that you need to use it at least every 29 days or you will have to call in for a new signal send. We're taking to Alaska for 5-6 weeks end of May.

It sounds like you may have a permanent site? Before purchasing anything I would check to insure you have a clear view of the satellites. There's an app for the iPhone which can help
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dish...409665461?mt=8
not sure if there's an android equivalent.

The other thing to note is you're in NY State. Depending what your needs are the Tailgater might not be the best choice for you because of the limitation of the HD satellite not able to receive 61.5 which is higher in the sky than the one it does at 129.

King Controls makes a "Flex" which is identical to the Tailgater (they make that too!) but WILL receive the 61.5 satellite making it a better choice for us northeast guys. It also costs more but again a site survey would determine if you need it or not.

If you are permeant, then it would probably be best to get a more permanent setup with a larger residential dish.

First thing I would do in any case is get a site survey as to what satellites you can and can not view so you can make the best choice.

I should have added that the Dish 211 receiver is not DVR capable as it comes to you. But you can easily add an ac powered external hard drive. One major drawback IMO is that the remote is IR, not UHF. That is a problem if you have TVs in different rooms and there is no line of sight from your handheld remote to the receiver. I overcame that with a repeater I picked up at Best Buy for around $50, but Dish need to correct this problem.
