Best way to clean your awning

I just bought a 297 bhs and the awning has some mildew but everything I read says don't use mildew cleaner. Would pressure sprayer work?

I use a car wash brush and car wash soap. Brush it as best as possible, roll up with soap on it for 20 minutes while you clean the rest of the trailer. Unroll, brush again and rinse. For the tough spots and mixture of bleach with a couple tbls of bleach in a spray bottle, roll it let it sit again and rinse.

I did it this way this weekend and awning came out pretty good. I had a spray bottle all ready mixed with bleach, simple green and water. I topped it off with simple green and water. I should have added a little more bleach to the mix.

I do similar to Jdurant, but I use a product call Spray Power (purchased from Menards $6.50/gal). I use it full strength. Spray or brush it on and roll up the awning and clean the rest of the HTT. It also works great to remove bugs from the front cap and black streaks.

Best way I found and I do to clean my awning.

1) Get a pump sprayer, can get one at walmart $20.00

2) Cup of bleach

3) Gallon of water

4) Mix together put in pump sprayer

5) Spray awning top and bottom try to avoid RV as much as possible.

6) Roll up awning let sit 15 to 20 minutes some do 30 minutes, do this in the shade, hose off side of RV while rolled to get over spray of bleach off.

7) On roll awning after alooted time, look to see if any spots need scrubbing (usually Not)

8) Rinse awning off with garden hose very well could rinse with soap if want

9) YOU ARE DONE that simple

I do like to do this right before I am going to wash the camper. I know it does not tell you to do this learned this from a nice old guy at a campground back in 2007 when he saw me trying to get the mold off at my site. Been doing it since no problems. Just rinse everything well.

Just asked service tech at Albany RV about this. He checked with his clean up crew the campers they take on trade they do this to all of them. He even said it had to be done on some new units before delivery that were on the lot for awhile. He said he has been doing it for years.

If you are using bleach, be very careful to rinse thoroughly. The bleach will deteriorate the polyester thread if you don't.

There is some awning cleaner sold in RV shops, citrus base. It works good on cleaning it... for mildew, try a little bleach in water, not too much


If there are stubborn stains, I use MrClean Magic Eraser, you scrub lightly and it all goes away!

I just did this using Amazing from bio kleen. Worked great. I let it sit rolled up for about 1hour as I was waxing other side of camper.

My awning has a few rust stains where the awning meet the metal rail. Will this remove the rust stains as well or do I need another technique?

From Costco I bought a large jug of Moldex power put that in the soap dispenser of my electric power washer thoroughly soaked the bottom of the awning and rolled it up.. let it sit in the shade for 30 min unrolled it and using the power washer rinsed the awning.. it looks like new now..

Try a paste made from Iron-Out powder and some water. Apply with your finger or an old toothbrush, let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse off.

I cleaned my awning this afternoon. I mixed up 1/2 cup of Oxiclean, a tables spoon of dawn dish soap in my 1 gallon pump up sprayer. I sprayed the under side and as I rolled it up I sprayed the top side. I let it soak for about 20 minutes, then opened it and scrubbed with a soft bristle RV brush and water. Mildew and spots came right off, it even got the side of the trailer clean.

I mixed up a pressure can of 1 gal water 1 cup of bleach and went to town. Had to scrub a little but wow. Real easy and looks brand new
