Best Weight Distribution hitch with sway control

Currently towing our 17 31QBDS with a 16 F150 Screw 3.5 eco max tow. Dealer threw in a Pro Series WDH with a single friction sway, and after the first trip I added a second. Still getting a fair amount of sway, so I'm wondering what everyone is using for hitches? So far I like the reese strait line or the blue ox sway pro but am open to anything as long as its under $1k or so. I drive a diesel tanker daily so I'm used to having a trailer moving me around a bit but a little extra security with the wife and baby in the truck would be nice. Thanks in advance!

If you truly want the BEST WDH with sway control then you have to get a ProPride or Hensley. Since you have over $70k in truck and trailer and more importantly, your wife and baby on board, spend a little more and get the ProPride. You will never miss the extra $1500 when you arrive at the campground every time safely.

If you are intent on towing that size trailer with the F150, I would strongly consider a Hensley or Propride. Best hitch you can buy, IMO. Mine made a world of difference.

I don't know what is the best (I always wonder how those who profess to know their "hitch is the best" can if they haven't done back-to-back tests;-) but I've used the Reese Dual Cam HD on three trailers and it just works. I get my truck back to the proper weight and height distribution and when there is any impact from wind or parsing trucks it isn't sway. The truck and trailer feel very connected.

I understand the initial setup can be a PIA but for that, I got a guy. :-)

ProPride eliminates sway. One of the reasons to claim it's the best in the market.

Trig,

Probably the best place to start is to verify your loaded weights and make sure you have enough tw. It could be sway induced due to not having enough tw. Follow my signature link for the CAT Scale how to. If needed, ask any questions!!!

The other thing you need to watch very closely is your loaded tw vs the trucks receiver hitch max tw rating. A "brochure" dry tw of 860lbs is ~1020lbs wth a battery and the 2-30lb tanks on the tongue.... Add in any additional weight in the storage under the bunks and depending on the rest of how you're loaded, you could be exceeding the trucks hitch rating. Without looking it up I think it is ~1200lbs....

The PP and HA can be found for ~$1k used, but the two downsides to them is their weight (~200lbs) that counts toward the trucks hitch tw rating and their max 1400lb tw rating. But they are the best systems out there!!!

The Reese Dual Cam and SC systems are very good for the money. The DC is a little more finicky in regards to when the tw changes from trip to trip (full fresh tank vs empty if in front of the axles for example) vs the SC. Not that familiar wth the BO system, but it seems to have a growing group of users who like it.

Good luck shopping!!!

I use a Pro Series WDH with 2 sway bars and they work fine, but then I tow level.
Every company and claim they have the best and every buyer say they have the best.
A WDH with sway bar has to be set up properly. Tighten the sway-bar enough till sway is gone (sometimes 3 turns in a heavy side wind). I back in any campsite without releasing them. My hitch shank is tight in the receiver (play causes sway) and get tighten with a set bolt. Just learn the dynamics what is causing sway and adjust accordingly. Every inch your coupler can get closer to your rear axle will eliminate the chance at sway. So drill a new hole in the shank if you have to.
If your trailer coupler is to high make it a under-slung coupler. Why waist money by listen to a salesman's story?

ProPride does not add 200 lbs to TW. I doubt that it adds more than a regular hitch, due the added length between the ball and the end of PP stinger.

I didn't state it adds to the loaded tw of the trailer, but the weight of the wdh system does count toward the max receiver hitch tw rating, as well as counting toward the trucks payload rating. The ~200lbs is from what actual users and those who have shopped for the wdh system have stated they weigh. Regardless of what the system weighs, its' weight does count toward those ratings.

IMO only the weight the hitch adds to tongue weight counts towards max hitch receiver tongue weight and payload. What weight you would deduct from payload? 200 lbs? If yes, I don't agree, but no worries, no need to agree with me

I'm another extremely happy camper with the Reese dual cam system. It's got WD and built in sway control, and if I recall, it was dealer installed for $570.

My trailer has plenty of TW, but the DC system has saved my bacon twice now... the first time was due to inexperience on my part hauling into the mountains and having snow squalls kick up, the second time was self inflicted, driving too fast while passing semi box trucks.

Each time, the D.C. System worked flawlessly and "snapped" the truck and trailer back into line as they are designed to do.

I have ProPride on a half ton truck towing a 36.5' TT. Zero sway. My problem is more the tow vehicle being too light in cross winds, and stepping up to a HD diesel. Should be tow nirvana. ProPride is not cheap, but it and Hensley are the undisputed kings of bumper tow hitches. My PP was worth every penny to remove sway out of the equation.

I had the same situation. 2015 3.5 EB with max tow and 2016 28BHBE Elite. I had the Hensley arrow. Also upgraded the shocks to Bilstein 5100's with airbags and KO2 E rated tires. Never had any sway but the truck was to light when there were cross winds. Towed great when weather was good with no cross wind but I upgraded to a diesel F250 to have a more relaxed drive

Equalizer brand 4-point.

An excellent hitch for me since 2006 towing nearly 100 different trailers over 100,000mi.

Bought a refurbished Pro Pride on EBay. Picked up 24 ft Jayco X213 in Cincinnati and towed to Cape Cod then Memphis, Mobile, south TX and then home to Tucson. I had 4000 miles of Zero sway despite a few thunderstorms and plenty of trucks passing me.

TV was a Land Rover LR3 with Curt frame mounted hitch. Should have been hell per conventional wisdom about a short wheel base but worked just fine. Had one emergency brake pedal to the firewall at 60 with a lane change to avoid someone who crossed 5 lanes of traffic after over correcting from drifting off the road. Trailer was perfectly behaved and followed right along. My heart rate was not so well behaved and went through the roof!

A lot of money but you can take it with you and move it to the next trailer. What price can you set on increased safety. My one emergency avoidance lane change convinced me that it was money well spent.
