Black Tank Valve

Wondering if anyone here can help me. My black tank valve seems to let some water past it even when in the closed position. It builds up against the drain cap so I have to be careful every time I set up and hook the sewer hose up. I know the valve is fully closed so I am guessing it needs to be replaced.

Has anyone else dealt with this in the past? Any advice would be appreciated.

Many of us have had the same issue with black/grey water tank valves. Here is my solution and I expect a lot of others as well:

Thank you for the link! Does this just twist on to the end of the current drain (where I currently attach my sewer hose)?

Assuming you have the same valve as sold in stores, 4 bolt style, rinse out your black tank well and then rinse it a few more times, cycling the valve as you rinse, if this doesn't fix it you may need new seals. I like to fill with 5-10 gallons of clean water and a automatic dishwasher pack or two, go for a drive then empty and flush again. Put on the gloves, you'll likely break off the four small bolts and then pull the center section out of the valve, install new gaskets, clean it up and install new stainless bolts with anti-sieze compund for next time.

my black water was leaking a little bit from day one, right off the dealership lot.. I flushed the tank good pulled it apart and changed it,, what had me a little lit up was i found what appeared to be some kind of paper document stuck in the valve, like somebody had put a document down the toilet .. Grrrrrrrrr.
took me about 30 minutes to change. but was worth it,, now my valve doesn't leak.

I wonder if it was a delivery/invoice slip that was in the tank.

I Agree. You may have a bit of toilet paper stuck to the valve. I had the same problem several years ago. After dumping, I added a big squirt of Dawn dish soap into the toilet, and filled the black tank with fresh water through the black tank flush. I let it set for about 15 minutes, then drained it. While draining, I opened and closed the drain valve several times rapidly. After several cleanings, the paper finally dislodged and I no longer have the problem. Hope yours works its way out as easily.

Ours leaked too from day 1. Couldn't see driving an hour each way to dealer to have them 'fix' it so I bought one of the Valterra valves and so far so good.

We have the same issue, but I found that it was water left in the pipes because they aren’t pitched enough, not the valve itself leaking. Added the Valterra twist on valves and good to go.
