Black water tank still at 2/3

?? Ideas on as to why, after emptying (hear nothing movin' on out) my black water level button/light still says 1/3 or 2/3...is it because it's not level? I have a black tank flush connection (never used before) am I supposed to use this regularly? I am on a seasonal sight year two...33RLDS...and loving it...

The sensors are wildly inaccurate at best. Could be a lot of things. I've heard of people having these problems and finding it was TP stuck to sensor. It wouldn't hurt to try your black tank flush.

Something may be on the sensor giving a false reading as mentioned above.

Black sensors are only correct when the tank is brand new and unused. After that it's a crap shoot (sorry for the cheap pun). "Stuff" will glom onto the sensors and cause false readings. I think TP is mostly the culprit. I've noticed after a good cleaning (rinse, rinse, rinse...) it will show empty. After a couple of flushes, boom, 2/3 full. I'm guessing the splashing gets whatever is glommed onto the sensor wet and the tank reports full again.
There are sensors that claim not to foul but I don't think its worth the effort.

A tank flush will fix it, but it will at best be temporary until your sensor gets covered with TP on the first trip out afterward.

My gauge? I look straight down the toilet with the valve open.

My 33LDS does not even come close to emptying without using the factory flush. I don't even bother dumping at CGs without full hook ups. I just do it at home due to how long it takes. It makes no difference if I start off with lots of water. I still have to run the flush for quite some time. It will read full as the flush is on due to the water completing the circuit. But when I am done, it will read empty.

I agree I used ours each dump and it's amazing how much crap (sorry) it flushes out after the tank is "empty". Mine will read empty then. Being in a stationary situation I would use your flush each time, you don't have the advantage of agitation in the tank when moving. Good Luck !

Ignore, ignore, ignore! As others have said, it's not at all accurate. We drove ourselves crazy in the beginning, but quickly learned not to pay attention.

As others have noted, the tank sensors are anything but accurate. I would recommend that you use the black tank flush connection instead of just draining the black tank. The use of a clear sewer hose adapter will allow you to see a reasonable amount of toilet paper being flushed-out that remained affixed to the black tank walls (and you keep flushing until no further debris and draining water is clear). Finally, one last recommendation if you use the black tank flush connection: use a water pressure regulator to ensure that you don't damage/create water leaks for the plumbing connected to the black tank.

Out of the three sets of sensors (fresh, gray, black), surprisingly the black sensors are the only ones that actually work. The fresh and gray both read empty at all times.

Then you'd better get the system checked. Sounds like a broken wire to the fresh and grey tanks...

X2

All my tanks now typically read about 2/3 full, even the FW tank. WE never put any TP in our black tank and it two reads 2/3 full.

Try the GEO method for holding tank useage. Give this a good read:

Generally speaking I do most of this except for the bleach. Bleach kills any and all the good bacteria that helps keep the odors down. So no bleach. If I had to do a sterilization for maintenance, that would be different.

Ummm .... what bacteria (names? genus? species?) help keep the odors down? Just curious.

So I guess we can all imagine what is glommed onto your sensors.

I bought a used one and it showed empty when I bought it. That was the last time it showed empty. Mine always shows it's full. After doing some research on this forum that seems to be pretty common. My gauge is a flashlight and look down the toilet. Its worked for two seasons now.

I don't know the names but your tank has "Good" bacteria in it. It comes from whatever product you use to treat the tank. Think RidX for your home septic system. I work on a boat with a self contained sewer system and I add bacteria to it once a week. This bacteria treats the solids and liquifies it as well as treats it so it can be pumped overboard to the EPA specified parts per million of effluent. If bleach gets near the toilet I will tear a New one in whoever does it as it kills the bacteria and stops the reaction. Guess whose job it is to open the system clean and restart. But the offender will be beside elbow deep as well. Also the sensors on that tank work differently that the Rvs. It's a float sensor and not electrical probes. The probes are unreliable in this application as they get covered and continuously read full. A float sensor floats on the liquid and is more reliable.
