Thumbs down Boodocking with fan

Hello, out there in Jayco forum land. After I started this thread, thought maybe I'm just dumb but I'll let you guy's decide.
Can I run the fan (on the AC unit) only off just the batteries?

it is a 15,ooo unit. Any Idea they will last?

Thanks RGVal

The best way to tell would be to plug in a Kil-A-Watt meter or hook up an ammeter. The whole unit takes 13ish amps when running (many more to start).

Just a quick google search, not in-depth, shows that replacement motors are in the 3-5 amp range.

That's a pretty good draw and not something I'd do with my single group 27.

Short answer is NO. Unless you have an inverter and big batteries, AND the inverter is connected to your AC breaker.

Another solution is to get a generator and connect a Soft Start to your AC....then you can run it and get cold air as well.

Here is what I do. I run the generator to run the A/C during the day. Then when its time to turn of the generator, The trailer is cooled down nicely. Then we run these auto fans. One fan in each bunk, one pointed at the sofa and my DW and I have one in our bedroom. Keeps the air moving and we all sleep great.
Generator also charges up the battery. battery will run all 4 of these automotive fans all night no problem.
I tapped into the LED light wiring for the bunks and use the TV and master bedroom power plug (Cigarette lighter plugs)
By the way, I have a 6 gallon marine outboard motor gas tank and I modified it so I can feed 2 2000 wat Yamaha Generators.

Agree with what Route66traveler said. I installed a Micro Air softstart so I can run the A/C on just 1 2000 watt generator, But when we are all in the trailer, then I fire up the second one.

Go find an old car heater box with 12VDC fan and hose connections... hook up both hoses and install an inline 12VDC pump in one line.. go throw both hoses into the creek when camping off grid...

You will be amazed how much cool air you will get out of the old heater chassis...

This will drain down a single battery pretty quick so this is really only good for those that has a pretty good battery bank...

I've used a 12 Volt "Endless Breeze" 3-speed box fan (4" x 15" x 15") for a number of years when boondocking. Moves air effectively, quiet, and minimal battery amp draw after long hours of operation.

That depends entirely on your battery bank.
What's the draw? what AH is our bank?

It may not be a great idea since the AC ducts are in the roof that cooks in the sun.

I mostly use 2 small fans, I just got a honeywell turboforce since our overpriced Lasko tower fan died in 2 days. This little guy moves air, more than the $62 lasko.

I have 600w of solar and even on cloudy days they've never touched my battery bank (4 trojan t105s which I now think was overkill.)

Fan is rated at .8 amps (96watts) but that would be the high setting.
