Brand new JayFlight. Is this right?
I just took possession of a new 2018 jay flight 242BHS. We pulled it directly to a nearby camp ground for its first “test” run. We immediately noticed inside the bathroom the exterior wall was curved in significantly. Upon inspection of the outside, I discovered that the entire wall has an inward curve, and it wasn’t apparent during our final walk-through since the slide was out during the PDI.
I am wondering why the wall on a brand new trailer would be misshaped this way and if it’s covered under warranty? I’ve sent pictures to the dealer’s warranty department and they said my pictures don’t show much. In person it is very visible, and the wall panelling in the bathroom is detached at the bottom.
Has anyone else noticed severe warpage in their brand new camper?

a few studs with a bow inwards will do this.

I don't know if they are seeing the same pictures you attached above, but I can clearly see what you're talking about. I would say "no", that's not "normal".
We had some "waviness" in our Jay Flight, but nothing like what you have. Especially if the entire wall is misshapen inside and out, I would say that could be a problem, and it could cause future problems.
Good news is it should be a RELATIVELY easy fix. It is a short section of wall, and it's "stick and tin".
ALJO is right I think; it could be as simple as warped wall studs. But then the bottom of that wall might be detatched from the floor. That would be a HUGE problem. Again, relatively easy to fix I would think, but it DOES need to be fixed.

I agree, not normal. I could understand a slight wave getting passed on as acceptable but that appears to be pretty pronounced.

Picture number one clearly shows it. Very alarming. W/o a doubt it needs to be corrected. I would be shocked if it hadn't detached at the floor.

Thanks for the quick replies. So I am definitely going to have it properly taken care of. Just hope they don’t try to somehow blame US for it. There’s no damage to the siding at all but the detached panelling I do remember seeing in the PDI and thought I could easily staple that down and didn’t give it another thought.

I have seen the siding bowed out before from lack of staples or loose staples but not bowed in. Definitely not normal.

I'm betting that something hit that trailer, like maybe a forklift at the factory backed into it. Look at the ribs. Especially above the "eyebrow" decal. It looks dented in more than the others.
And if the dealer can't see that in the pictures they are smoking something.

Yes if something backed into it with the siding on there would be a huge, impossible to miss
dent in the siding. That stuff bends just by looking at it lol.

No creases in the siding? If not, it was a vertical wood stud that warped (not cured or bent to begin with). You could put a large straight edge on it and measure the "run-out" to give the dealer actual deviation. I would eye a straight 2x4 and use that. Take a picture of that along its edge to prove it is straight. Measure from each ridge of the tin from top to bottom. At least that way you have tangible measurements.

Nothing backed into it. The wood was too green, and dried after the install, rather obvious.

Scott is correct. Any experienced woodworker can tell you about how much improperly cured wood can warp, just with changes in humidity and/or temperature. It can pull a structure apart. Pine and other softwoods are very prone to doing this.

I read the posts before looking at the pictures but when I did finally look at them I went 'Aaah!'
Unfortunately it's one of those things you don't really want them to fix because of the amount of work it'll need. It may be hard to get corrected because there's they'll say there's functional or likely structural deficiency.
I would want it fixed or, better, swap out for another unit. Good luck.

I had the trailer at the dealer today. They agreed it’s a defect and I’m to bring it in at the end of the season and they’ll fix it. (And that takes care of winter storage, so a little bonus there. In the meantime, they say it’s ok to use the trailer normally.

Cautionary tale, just in case it's not obvious as it wasn't to me:
Back in early Sep 2015 we brought our X19H in to be repaired for some bunk-end defects. It turned out the repair would take months and in late Sept they called asking if I wanted to winterize it or pay them to do it.

Yup, and they'll likely let your battery turn into a doorstop too. Even my old dealership (which was pretty darn good) let my battery go stone dead while I had it in for warranty repair.

I’d get it swapped out for a new one now. Especially as they e accepted it as their problem now. They can then fix it on their own time and sell it again.
