I have installed a 51 gallon auxiliary diesel tank, gives me a total of 85 gals, I get an avg of 11.4 mpg towing a 12,750 pound 5th. For me that's the way to go, can travel 2 days before refueling, and I use gas buddy app, to find the best deals on diesel fuel, by doing this it, can save me between 8 to 34 bucks a tank full... that's why I do it,

I was thinking of doing the same thing on longer trips where I know I will need to fill up. The second reason to have the portable tank is if you find yourself at a gas station you can’t pull truck and trailer in to. With a 5 gal tank you can park close and walk over and get enough fuel to keep you going.

I have a 50 gallon aux fuel tank which I love. Can tow at least 800 miles so no need for that extra 5 gallon can

Got caught near empty one time, every station I passed for the next 30 miles either didn't have diesel or there was no way to get to the pump. Just as I was getting desperate enough to drop the trailer I found a place that with careful maneuvering I could get into. That won't happen again. I bought and installed a 30 gallon tank with it's own pump. I almost never let that tank get below 10 gallons left. Even at 12 MPG that gives me another 100 miles of safety margin and I figure if I can't find something within 100 miles of my location I am truly screwed anyway.

I usually make the same mistake over and over, but I really try not to.

We have just came back from a 3,500 mile trip through Oregon and California, and we carried two 5-gallon containers of diesel. And, I have to say that those 10 gallons saved us from spending over $5 a gallon in California! If you can handle taking about 15 gallons with you, I'd would highly encourage it!

I never carry extra diesel. I fill up when it's halfway. But I'm most alway on interstate. Having said that i always see news stories about backed up traffic from an accident. I think from now on I'll carry 5 gallons and cycle it in every week. I always over pack and over kill but I don't worry about problems. I carry a 20 ton jack for a 6 ton 5th wheel. Carry an external battery when flying to charge my phone while everyone else is looking for a outlet. It'll charge me up 3 times.

I carried a 5 gallon container of Diesel when I only had a 26 gallon tank and was traveling across the country. Then I found an after market Titan 50 gallon fuel tank that fit in the same spot as my 26 gallon tank. I love it and I don't worry anymore about not having enough fuel to get to the next stop.

I had a 60 gal replacement tank installed by Areo Tanks. They also installed a 40 gal in the bed of the truck. I now carry 100 gallons. Do not have to buy fuel in CA. Save enough money to almost pay for the tanks.

Smile Auxiliary fuel tank

I installed a toolbox/tank combo in my Ram 2500 diesel and it has been well worth the money. We are just now on our way back from Utah to Mississippi and the tank has definitely come in handy. There were some places in Utah and New Mexico you couldn't find diesel for a good 150 miles. I had more than enough to get by. With the auxiliary tank and the regular tank I can carry 95 gallons on board.

I'd like a Titan but they don't make an underbody replacement for the L5P trucks and I have no desire to install an in-bed tank.

Check with Areo Tanks in San Bernardino CA. They have been great to me for two trucks.

On a trip to California I took a 5 gallon can of Diesel and it came in handy a few times. When going through New Mexico and Arizona there were lots of abandoned fuel stations and a few that didn't carry diesel. That extra 5 gallons go us another 50 miles further!

Smile X-tra fuel

On the road I carry 2 5gal containers and a rattle siphon. Got the containers from Walmart on line for about $12 each delivered to my store. Added a 12 inch piece of 3/4 PVC to get by the double doors so the siphon fits great.

Always nice to know you have another 100 or so miles when Flying J prices are $0.30 higher than local stations.

Had it done

I had my Ford Dealer order and install it for me. I love it and don't have to worry anymore.
