Brown water after flushing my tanks

So this is really weird. I’ve been staying at a brand new really nice campground for the last few weeks.(I’m a first timer) Here is basic info before I start this story- used 2021 jayco 330rsts, Full hookups, city water, water filter, 2 grey tanks, 1 black. So whenever I drain the tanks, I drain black first with a black take flush hose running(yes different hose than my main water) then I drain the grey. Every time I’ve done this I go back inside and I turn a sink or shower, or run the toilet water. the water will be clear for a few seconds then light brown for a few seconds and then go back to clear. First time I thought it was a coincidence because new campsite could be some sediment in the pipes. But it does it every time I empty tanks and that’s the only time it does it. Is it possible the sewer and the water line got crossed? It’s really grossing me out.

Likely just residue coming off of the sides of the black tank, and also, the bottom of a holding tank is generally flat and does not drain particularly well especially with a level RV. For my 5er's black tank to get a good drain my front end has to be raised 6" or so higher as it's valve faces the rear of my RV. I only do that when winterizing to be sure it's totally empty.
I think you're fine.

I believe the OP is referring to "light brown" colored water coming out of interior sink spigots, toilet, etc..

RJSutt,

Welcome to JOF

I would confirm the condition of 'all' your fresh water filters and outdoor fresh water hoses. Another thought would be to sanitize the system, and power flush your HWH.

HWH flushing tool: https://www.campingworld.com/water-h...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

Filling a couple buckets directly from the city water spigot is there any signs of dis-color/sediment? Is the 'light brown' color also evident running just the 'hot' sink spigots as well?

Just thinking out-loud.....

Bob

Wow, I was quite a few gallons off on that one! My comprehension took the day off I guess..

X2, As Bob said, get a bucket, unhook your supply hose and open the supply valve wide open for awhile. I'd guess is the CG water supply has sediment in its lines and when you're drawing a lot of water it is bringing it into your RV.

Sounds like brown water only comes out of the faucet after flushing your tanks? Try dumping your tanks without hooking up the flush hose.

This fixed the problem. Where I was using both hoses it increased the pressure and stirred up all the sediment in the pipes.
