Bumper Bike Rack?
Howdy all!
My wife and I just got some beach cruisers and want to bring them with us when we camp. We have a ‘18 JayFlight 32BHDS and have been looking in to getting a bumper rack. I’ve read somethings that mention that using one could alter (negatively) the way the weight is distributed and potentially damage the bumper. I’d like to know if anyone has a similar camper, who has a bumper rack and to know if there has been any issues? Also, if you haven’t had any issues, what rack/set up are you using? Thanks for the help.

I contacted Jayco about this, and they told me the bumper can only support 100 pounds,
The spare wheel is 50 or so....

Not counting the weight of the rack I presume.
What do you tow the RV with and could you carry the bikes in/on that?

I have an Autumn Ridge 329bhu same as the Jayco 32bhds. I use a two bike rack by Salomon where the bikes sit on holders and get clamped down very little bounce. I remove the spare tire and travel with it in truck bed. Have been on several long trips and no issues.
Does your 32bhds have the frame mounted hitch...i’m assuming no?
My rack is similar to this

Google Mount-N-Lock. I got the bumper braces and the 2 inch hitch. It did real good. Put Bike on it Wife followed me camping in her car and said that the bike did not move at all. This mod will let you put 400 pounds on the bumper per the manufacturer. Cost was around 100.00 for both and shipping. Might be something you would like

Check out "Jack It" brand bike carrier by Lippert Components. It bolts to your front a/frame at the trailer jack. I have one on our Jayco and really like it. Now I don't have to worry about our rear trailer bumper and bicycles falling off and going through someones windshield! Well worth the peace of mind!

The ones I have seen don't just damage the bumper, the bumper metal is so thin that it shears the welds. that hold it on.
The damage could also affect or destroy the bikes as well.
There are many threads on this on JOF with pictures. As well as solutions that involve beefing the bumper or attachments to make it stronger.

Again I haul my bikes on a bumper mounted setup at my own risk. But when looking closer at the way the 329bhu and 32bhds bumpers are fabricated they are solid bumpers unlike thin tin on the lightweights and fully welded at all joints. With the supports tying into the frame.
I feel as though if you use a proper bike rack that prevents movement and lightweight (aluminum) bikes it can easily support the setup as long as you haul the spare tire elsewhere.

I have a F-350 but it’s a 6.9 ft bed and the majority of the bed is taken up by coolers, chairs and such

Thanks. Unfortunately no hitch at this point so I will have to by an after market high receiver.

[QUOTE=dvknutson;672859] (4) Four long studs / 2 plates / hitch receiver / and the bike rack welded to the top E7018 - Done like dinner.
I don’t plan to tow anything, but you never know maybe a light MX bike trailer, or something

I needed a four bike carrier and after reading a lot of posts and reviews, I bought this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to beef up the bumper. Although a bit more money and I could have bought a hitch that bolted to the frame.
