camping with kayaks
Has anyone transported kayaks inside the camper while traveling and did you protect them and the inside of the camper in any way.

Either my trailer is too small or Kayak too large but my question is how would you get it in there?

In my trailer, I put the slide out, turn the kayak on it's side and insert through the door. Wrap. Repeat. Put them on the furniture on the slide out and close up.

I think if you can get them in the RV thats one thing but after you've been using them they're full of dirt, rock and water thats trapped in the nooks and crannies. I would be afraid that some of that carnage would spill out into my RV.
When we had a 5th wheel we contemplated this same thought. We could've brought them in and through the living/kitchen and up on the bed. We had a rear entry 5er so it was easy to manipulate them in there. Never did go through with it though.

We pulled ours into the kitchen/living room area with the slide closed, and they fit in the floor.
Moving blankets, tarp, kayaks, bungees. Then stuff the sleeping bags around them to stop movement. Whoever was in the back had to go out the bathroom door, or scramble over the top of everything.

I would love to bring them but can't figure out how to mount them. I have to mount them outside somehow with a rack of some sort. I don't have enough room inside. Something like J&EC has.

We have 2 Ocean Kayak Frenzy - I store mine inside the TT for the winter, but with a hybrid that's easy. Just drop the bunk, zip open the end panel and slide them straight inside. I use one of the mattresses to wedge them so they don't move around, but I'm only transporting from home to the storage yard and back (about an hour round trip).
For summer travel we roof mount on the truck and that works well. They don't extend too far back over the bed, and could be moved forward on the rack some, so could probably work with a 5er as well.
Prefer the roofrack at the CG because it gives you a way to get them to the water if you don't have a waterfront site, and we can secure them to truck with a simple cable lock.

That's a nice setup.

I have been able to squeeze a 12' kayak on the floor between the kitchen.
Pull out slide, kayak on its side, slide thru the front door and up & over kitchen table then back to floor. Put slide in.
I now use the Universal Truck Rack to haul my kayaks (on top of truck) while pulling my TT.

We have a 12' Portabote. We just place it on the floor, all the way to the back. On the floor we have a rubber floor mat, it sits partially on it, and has never moved. If I was concerned about it moving I would just use some old towels to protect any wood work.

Moving blankets and foam pads would help in a pinch. To me this is stepping over a dollar to save a dime. The damage a kayak can do bouncing around in a camper could be a whole lot more than a truck rack cost.
My kayak is 15' feet so my only option would be a truck rack.

We carry 2 Ocean brand kayaks on our trucks roof. We have a Yakima roof rack and attachments. Works great but are real hard to find due to the high demand.
