Can Jay Flights be fixed to use only one tank?

It is a mistake to have both 40+ gallon fresh water tanks to be "hooked" together. When boon docking away from any other water sources, the extra tank comes in handy.

However, on most occasions, it is unnecessary. Why fill both tanks 1/2 full when it would be easier to just fill one tank completely full.

Is there anyway to convert it to a one tank system?

I don't understand your logic. What difference does it make? 1 full or 2 half full.
It's the same amount of water.

There is only one fill and one drain.

You can do anything that you want. You can take put a shut off valve on the hose between the 2 tanks... but I agree with norty... this sounds like a solution without a problem. There is no noticeable difference between the tanks. They are both in the same place under your camper. Weight transfer wouldn't be noticeable from one tank to the other.

I'd love to hear what problem you are trying to solve.

There are two drains on mine, though as they're all of 10 inches apart that's not much of a concern either.

One potential upside of a single tanks is that there would be less shifting weight with water sloshing around in a single full tank than two half-full ones.

I haven't dropped the underbelly to check on mine to confirm, but I think based on physical positioning that fill on mine may enter the opposite tank from where the pump draws water. this would complicate the process, preventing a simple cut-off valve between tanks from accomplishing what the OP is looking for.

The two tanks 1/2 full results in 20 gallons sloshing around in each.
2 tanks of 20 gallons of sloshing water is worse than 1 tank of 20 gallons.
Not as much room to do a lot of sloshing.

The other reason is when sanitizing the tanks it takes twice the amount of water to sanitize. Why waste so much water when only one tank is normally needed.

Do what you want. It is not a problem for me.

First get underneath and get a good look at how your system is set up.

You must determine which tank will be your primary tank. This would be the one from which your pump draws water. Hopefully it is also the one where the FW fill hose enters. Make sure that there is a vent and/or overflow hose attached to this tank. If not, you must add one. Then you would have to install shutoffs on the equalization hoses between your primary and secondary tanks. You will need to determine a way for these to be easily accessible, or else you will be crawling underneath your trailer to turn them on and off.

But I agree with Norty. I think this is way too much work and complication to accomplish your purpose. Just fill both tanks half full and be done with it. I don't buy the sloshing around, weight shifting causing difficulty in control and sway problems. We have traveled with half full tanks lots of times and never noticed any problems. I believe this is a solution (a complicated one at that) looking to solve a problem that doesn't exist. But it is your trailer, do what you want.

I agree that it isn't really a problem but I also agree that the water wasted when sanitizing is a concern if your never going to use both tanks. Yes, it's only once a year (for most) but it's time consuming and a waste. I like the idea of a valve, however I am not tearing apart my enclosed underbelly to do the mod. If one day I have it apart for some reason, it's something I might consider.
