Can See Some Mods Coming on 2015 Jayflight 28BHBE

I spent yesterday afternoon and early evening reviewing our new travel trailer. I can see some mods coming, and wonder how others have approached the following:

(1) The “wheel well” is not a “well” at all – it is open at each end. This is in contrast to my 1995 Jayco Eagle, which had a definite “well”. All kind of road gunk splashes up on the underside of the trailer on the outer edges. My thinking is to fashion some type of end plates out of heavy plastic. Has anybody else noticed this problem and tackled this issue?

(2) There are no fans to the exterior in the ceiling. My 1995 Jayco Eagle had three fans. I guess I just did not notice that these were not on there – perhaps because I was looking at trailers in January and February. I have done some reading on the Fantastic Vent fan - looks good, nice exterior covers. Can these be added without a ton of work? I would think the biggest issue would be fishing power lines to the fan. I was thinking I might have the dealer do this so that there will be no warranty issues. Anybody have experience with this issue?

(3) There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom. There is a skylight over the shower stall. I wonder if a ceiling fan may be possible. If it is too many openings in the ceiling too close together, would it be possible to do an exhaust fan out the wall, much like the exhaust fan over the stove? Again, I think that this might be a dealer install to ensure there will be no warranty questions in the future.

(4) The wiring up near the tongue is rather messy. I think I’ll organize more neatly and place in split loom.

(5) I have a 42 gallon Barker sewer tote tank. There are bracket kits to store the tote on the end of trailer on the Barker website. I would like to install the bracket kit and store on the end of the trailer. Has anyone done this? Maybe another dealer installation item to ensure warranty?

(6) There are no leveling bubbles on the trailer – another thing I did not notice. MY 1995 Jayco Eagle had a number of bubbles nicely placed around the trailer. These appear easy to install – locate the wall stud, screw on, and seal carefully. I am a little hesitant on anything that penetrates the outer skin during the warranty period.

I am sure more will come to mind over time.

Thanks!

For general public RVs, it seems to be the new pattern of making trailers with LESS features, don't tell buyers and getting RV Parts stores / RV Service shops to add things afterward "at extra cost". Shame on RV industry! Too bad they wouldn't be more like the auto industry and include more features - to attract more buyers. Or, provide an up front list of things that should be added - as part of the chassis bundle.

For other DIY mods, do investigate many items shown within their MUST-DO Mods section (within lower right page) of http://www.modmyrv.com/

Once you start adding your mods, head over to the "Jayco Mods" forum and start your own "Mod" thread with tips and pics

I opted to install the Hengs'Vortex Fan that retro fits into the existing vent opening and then cover with a MaxxAir II vent cover. Didn't require breaking the roof seal the way a fantastic fan does. I had power available as my JayFlight had a power vent fan in the bath, but it was real weak. The other had 12V constant from a near by light that I used.

I installed "sitck-on" buble levels for my previous 2 TT. Didn't screw them in, the tape has held them just fine.

The battery wiring on my Trailer was a bit messy too. I simply cleaned it up and routed it along the A-Frame and reterminated Ring Terminal.

Let us know if you get the Barker mount. I have havn't been able to see any good pictures so I havn't pulled the trigger. Previously I had a ladder and used ratchet strap to hold it to the ladder. My current TT doesn't have a ladder, so I am considering fadbricating an under Trailer Mount for it -- I don't have an enclosed underbelly and there is a spot it will fit. Again still palnning for this, haven't done it yet.

Clubhouse, can you say something about the difference in light you get with the retro fitted fan? I've had fantastic fans before and really liked how much light came through the clear blades and structure. Did you get the multispeed version or single speed? How much noise does it make and what does it sound like? I have the old-style "fart fan" in my latest trailer and it really does nothing to move air out when you want it to.

Thanks!

I installed the same fan as Clubhouse in the bathroom vent. Its all done from the inside so installation is a snap. It replaced the tiny stock fan. I`m kind of surprised your trailer had no fan or vent in the bathroom.

If you want to build some fenderwells out of plastic, this is the stuff you need. I've made many fenderwells for race cars out of this stuff...
