Carpenter Ants

So I have a brand new trailer and it looks like it either came with a carpenter ant colony or I picked them up somewhere. Looks like they are coming from under the trailer any suggestions to get rid of them. I tried Terro baits but no luck so far.

Did you use regular Terro? They make one specifically for carpenter ants & termites.

What Grumpy said. I believe the regular Terro is for ants that like sugar.

You need something "heavy duty". Also look closely at where they are located, they love moisture (possible leak).

Yah like I said the Trailer is new I checked all over for leaks haven’t found anything wet or seen anything on the roof that would indicate a leak. Any suggestions on something heavy duty?

Those are factory workers that didn't get out before shipment. In order to meet demand many RV builders use ants for final trim and fitment modification of the interior wood. That way the regular line workers can do cabinetry and framing with chainsaws and staple guns.

Lowes, Home Depot and ACE all have products just for Black Ants/Termites.

As others have indicated you do need a specific bait/treatment for carpenter ants. This link should provide details specific to carpenter ants:

Many here will call this crazy... but it works for us. CAUTION: this does not work everywhere, there are additional risks and considerations you must take into account for safety reasons.

An old guy showed me this, when he has an invasion of ants in his home, or outside - he used a small propane hand torch and burned the ants where they were (don't do this on carpeting or vinyl tile) Don't remove the dead ants, leave them there!
Check back in the morning, all of the dead have been removed and they are all GONE. and they never came back either.

Good news is the trailer is primarily made of Aluminum at least structurally. Go to a true insecticide site online for the best remedy.

Best thing for carpenter ants is the dust. You can drill fine holes or blow it up under the siding. I've used it and have seen it work. They hate the stuff and you can get it into cracks with air or a pump. Once it's in there it stays there and they won't come back.

My exterminator told me they are the hardest things to get rid of.

Might be an insurance claim for you.
