Caulking or recaulking inside & out

Returning from a weekend out, I was at the Camping World RV dump station. As I was waiting for the tanks to drain, I was spraying the side & back with the water hose. Well the nice gentleman waiting behind me, walked up and after first complementing me on being one of the few women he had ever seen emptying the tanks alone. Then he asks about my 26BHW SLX Jayflight. He told me to invest in alot of waterproof caulking and start inside and do everything! He showed me the inside of his, his wife rents each of their 4 trailers out for extra income. They had siliconed every single corner, trim, edge. Even in the storage cabinets on the inside.

Now since getting ours a few years ago, we have not had any leaks or problems. But I don't see any silicone caulking anywhere inside.

Have you done this to your TT? The salesman at Lowes had great fun laughing with me, of course, simply by a female asking for caulking advice.

I've never caulked anything inside my trailer... definitely the outside to prevent leaks. Caulking the inside wouldn't be to prevent leaks as it's too late once the water gets in. Maybe there is another reason?

I was wondering the same thing, especially for the bathroom and anywhere else there are sinks. My kids sometimes tend to use more water than needed and I'd hate for water to get somewhere it shouldn't be.

I have never needed to caulk much on the inside. I just check around the wet areas, aka the sinks.

If he is renting out his campers, I could see maybe why. The renters have an attitude that it is not theirs and who cares where you spill. However, the former owner of my stick built house loved non paint-able silicone caulk, and what a PAIN, it is everywhere, and when I want to paint a room or anything, I have to spend an insane amount of time on prep work, and they where not very neat and clean when they installed it.

To do a really good caulk job, you need lots of painters tape.

The outside, I routinely inspect and touch up. The older the TT gets the more I have to touch up. This spring I did most of the roof with Eternabond, accept the tv antenna.

Absolutely no reason to caulk inside.

I'll add do NOT use silicone caulk on the outside! I'd suggest going to an RV supply or buying from Amazon. I use Dicor. In general there are 2 types of caulking, leveling and non-leveling. The leveling will spread out a bit after it's applied, good for use on the roof. The non-leveling is better for vertical surfaces as it will sag less.
