City water fills fresh water tank
When I connect to city water, my fresh water tank fills. I thought this was not supposed to happen. Also sometimes (not always) after showering what I presume to be the fresh water tank overflow drains water for a while. Photo shows unmarked white line that I presume to be the overflow. Perhaps these problems are related. Thoughts? Newbie with Jayco. Thank you!

There are a few reasons this could happen. I'm not familiar with your unit, but some campers have a 3 way valve that redirects city water to the fresh tank. This could be partially open or defective.
Otherwise, there should be a check valve (one way valve) that allows tank water to enter the pump, but not allow city water to enter the tank. If it's leaking or stuck open, then the tank could fill. The check valve is either in the water pump or between the tank and the pump.
edit: Looking into it more, the pump (probably a Shurflo) has a check valve. It's probably defective or there is debris stuck in it. You can try disconnecting the city water and seeing if running the pump clears any debris. Otherwise, if you run the pump, a symptom could be that the pump pressurizes the system and stops, then the water leaks back through the valve and then the pump runs again to re pressurize.

That seems like a very comprehensive description!

Very helpful
Very good detail on the problem. As you suggested, the pump is a Shurflo. It is easily accessible. I’ll try running it to see if that clears it. If not I’ll see if I can disassemble and clean the valve. Thank you!

One last item:
Check your water hose and see if the washer/screen is in backwards. It should be hump side out. We had one in backwards that kept the check valve open.

Problem solved (hopefully)
I checked the screens and all seems OK. Focusing on the check valve in the water pump, I cycled water pump pressure - bleed down - city pressure - bleed down six times hoping that if the check valve was stuck or dirty that would free it up. Bleed down was bleeding down water pressure inside the tt. I then put full city pressure on for four hours with no water build up in the fresh water tank noted. I think that the problem was the check valve, it is now working as it should, and hopefully the problem is solved. Thanks all for the thoughts and help!
