Colorado Springs RV Parks - Help

My DW and I are planning a trip to Colorado Springs before the snow flies. There seem to be several RV parks in the area but reviews are mixed. Any personal experience recommendations. Suggestions would be appreciated.

My wife and I loved Cheyenne Mountain state Park. They have full hookups and a variety of sizes. The one problem is that it is reservation only and the reservations only open up 6 months in advance r of your arrival so it might be full. The park website says their is a 12% grade for about a mile but my ruck said it was only 6. It is a very beautiful park and is at the base of Cheyenne Mountain (of NORAD days) and across from Fort Carson. In certain spots (where we were) you could hear reveille each day at 0630.

We were there last week in spot 58. That was a beautiful spot. Fair warning though, you have to buy a park pass for 10 dollars per day in addition to the camping fee.

We were just at Mountaindale RV and resort campground. Just south of Colorado Springs. Very nice campground, friendly staff, full hookups, wildlife wanders through the campground. Easy in and out. The only negative is cellular service is spotty no matter who the carrier is. Would definitely stay there again.

+1 for Cheyenne Mountain SP. Beautiful place with easy access to CO Springs. And yes, you get to hear Revile every morning, and Taps every night, if you're outside. We couldn't hear it from inside the rig unless the windows were open, which they frequently were because the weather was just so darn nice!

This park would be at the tippy top of my list of places to stay if we go back. And I'm sure we will.

The only hiccup we had was that there was some old-timer in our spot when we arrived. He didn't know that the park took reservations. Apparently it used to be a First come first served kind of place. I told him we had reservations, showed him the tag on the post with my name on it, he apologized and vacated. Host came over to make sure all was well, and the rest of the trip we were good to go.

Nice playground for the kiddos, nice little store with souvenirs and such, a few displays of local wildlife and information in there too. And we saw Mule Deer roaming about the campground as well as prairie dogs. Plenty of walking/biking trails if that's your thing. Full hookups, well maintained sites, etc. It was every bit as nice as some private CG's I've stayed at, and better than most.

They do close off many of the sites for winter, so just be aware of that when you make your reservations. They also close up public bathrooms and laundry facilities in winter too.

If you like to be packed in like sardines then Goldfield RV Park is for you. We were only there to sleep basically so it wasn't too bad. We had to share a picnic table with a 40' MH and were so close they had to retract their awning so that we would could squeeze in. It was close and convenient to all the sights and family we were interested in though.

Another vote for Cheyenne Mountain SP. We stayed there 4 nights and really enjoyed the CG. Ft Carson was my first state-side duty station and the trip brought back some great memories. You can hear the combat arms units performing night fire missions on Ft Carson as an added bonus.

Wow. Great information. Thanks a bunch. We are trying to make the aspens changing. We will see if we can get lucky on one of these with short notice reservations.

We stayed at Mountaindale with our RV club many times. It's quiet, The staff is okay. No pool. No businesses/cafes nearby. Lots of shade, clean and cheap ice cream Saturday night.

Frankly I never understood why our club liked it so much.

We’ve used Mountaindale as well. It was ok. My only beef was the explosions at the mine up the road and the trucks early in the AM to and from the mine. Nice sites, ok staff, and the deer visit in the afternoon.

My first choice if I were to stay in The Springs again would be Cheyanne Mntn.

Did they charge you for water too? We stayed at Cherry Creek State Park near Denver last summer. When I looked at the invoice when we got home we were charged $1 a day for water, in addition to the camp fee and $9 per day entrance fee. Sounds like the entrance fee went up this year.

I've never stayed right in Colorado Springs, but the places I have stayed nearby were good.

Pikes Peak RV Park is in Manitou Springs. We were there about 5 years ago. It was tight for our 35' trailer, but the management was good, the park well maintained, and you're right in the middle of Manitou Springs.

About 3 years ago we stayed at Mountaindale. Lots of shade, plenty of room, friendly people, and close to nothing. It was fantastic. I did come face to face with a small black bear. The lesson learned there was that I take the trash to the dumpster before dark. (He ran away before I realized what was happening.)

No water charge, at least not in 2018. I don't get the state park additional fee...Nebraska does that too.

I did not notice any separation of charges. Maybe the park in Denver has different rates. Ours as full hookup for 47 per day. The park fee was 10.00 per day but we were staying so long (and coming back next year) that it made sense for us to buy the annual pass for 80

Yep. Not worth griping about. It just ticked me off that I was charged for water but still had to put $2 worth of quarters in the slot to take a shower.

Another nod to Mountaindale. It’s a beautiful setting with lots of wildlife at times. It’s a bit remote to the city but we enjoyed the CG very much.

Don't forget "Lone Duck RV resort". We enjoyed it for several years and they have ATV rentals
